Yes, this will never happen and yes, I’m going into full retard mode here, but if this proposal was offered, would....

1) You accept the deal?

2) The Canucks accept the deal?

3) The Sabres or Stars accept the deal?

In answering my own question:

1) Yes for either or

2) Yes for either or

3) Sabres say no, but maybe Dallas bites (unlikely however)

Next season:

Edler-Heiskanen

Hughes-Myers

Rathbone-Stecher

Agreed, but can you imagine having Hughes and one of Dahlin or Heiskanen together on that back-end?    We would have the best young dcore in the league.

Also, when you consider that....

-Boeser

-Toffoli

-Virtanen

on the right side

-Miller

-Pearson

-FutureCheapSigning

on the left side,

For the foreseeable future,

It may not be a bad way to go all things considered.

If either of those teams do that trade you are stupid to not do it. There is no way either team trades away a number 1 Dman for prospects.

I say let's revisit this in 3 years.

I genuinely think Hughes might in fact be better than Dahlin.  Podz is possibly better than advertised.  OJ is just making his way now.  No mention of Hoglander who looks like a young Burrows

We need the skilled depth more than we need another upcoming superstar contract

You do not pass up on an NHL dman who will very likely be a dominant number 1 when all a team wants is unproven prospects. Those D man are incredibly rare and you need more than just Hughes.

You also need a full team not just two superstars (see Edmonton).  There has to be great support skilled and grit around your core.  Van is close to being deep, gritty and highly skilled on every line.  2 franchise and 2 elite core players are enough to win if the rest of the lineup are complementary to fill in the remaining roster.  Benning has almost achieved this.  By letting Pods, Juolevi, Hogs + for 1 all be it franchise player... No thanks.  I'd rather follow the Chicago blueprint rather then the Oilers or Leafs.
