Maniwaki Canuck
Helluva game: so great to see us go toe to toe with these guys and not get intimidated by their dirty play. We clearly have more skill, depth, speed and better goaltending than them, and those things won us the game. They will come harder at us and continue to target Hughes and Petey. As long as those two can avoid injury, though, we'll be fine. We'll lose a couple of games but win the series. St. Louis' "heavy" game plan backfired tonight. They hoped we'd be worn down by the 3rd. How did that work out? Fact is our bottom 6 hit their D pretty hard too and by the 3rd, our speed was breaking through. We can play their game but they can't play ours. It's a good matchup for us.

That size, grit and speed added to that top notch shutdown duo - just makes me love watching that line that much more. Popular Post IBatch
What a great game. Might have to watch it again. Just wanted to say how proud I’m of all the players so far. The vets are showing why JB paid them their big bucks, Sutter, Beagle, Motte and Roussel have been superb for the most part. Pearson wow. LE pk dynamite and allowing Horvat and Pearson to take risks ... and finally the young stars. I would have been satisfied if their production was maybe half what it is and they all learned some lessons. That’s pretty much what I expected - after all the last two cores took five plus years to get there and really never amped it up in the post season. They were still good but didn’t match their regular season production. What these kids have managed so far is truly incredible when you think about it. QHs post-game “Honoured” to be receiving the extra attention and punishment. What a gamer. Babych wondered how they would do once “Hudson Bay” rules came out - QHs in particular talking about how the shut down Housley to the point he was like JV last game - invisible - at the peak of his powers. I’m sure big Dave is super stoked with their play so far. BB is constantly going to the dirty areas...EP seems to get mad and it back-fires a little (so far)... Yes it’s early days yet - but if someone said we’d win four in a row against two of the best defensive teams in the league (that’s not exactly our strong suit - our strong suit is going against offensive teams that take risks) id probably have laughed and maybe roasted them a little. Was thinking our window is in two years plus whatever we could manage this year given our cap is going to start pushing quality depth out of the lineup ... but wasn’t expecting us to play this well this soon. Kudos to TG and staff for getting them all ready. 1 4

Agree - hopefully over a series we can sustain it. we do need to pick up on our 5 on 5 play. Zone entry still needs work, especially as I believe around 46% of all goals are scored within 5 seconds of gaining the zone, and with our speed and skill we should be doing more with it. also we need to cross the royal road a lot more and with speed prior to shooting. We played well and hopefully will continue to do so, but there are still many Areas we can improve on

Jake was a water lily drifting on the pond dont know if thats fair. Green used him in pretty short shifts and neither Rous or Jake saw any shifts in the last 9 minutes or so. And as @oldnews pointed out those three together dominated possession. I'd keep that together and see if they can neutralize things that way again. 1
Popular Post The Colt 45s
Beagle is my favorite. I used to work for his dad, and worked with his grandfather. So I knew him when he was 10. I joked with him that he would make the league, win the Cup, and maybe one day he would play for the Canucks. If he is anything like his dad and grandfather, we have a guy who will lay it all out on the ice. Good times for the Canucks right now. That “waste of talent” saved a goal. Virtanen had some big hits early in the game as well. There were also a total of 9 penalties in the game, which he saw 28 seconds of power play time and zero time on the PK. He isnt used in those situations, so for a guy getting limited ice time and not seeing any of the special teams ice time, its going to be difficult for him to get into the game. Boeser and Miller had 6:51 PP TOI and Pettersson had 7:01 PP TOI. Virtanen had a total of 9:26 TOI And was the 3rd lowest forward for TOI. Give the kid some credit for making a great read and saved a goal in his limited ice time and 4th line duties. 1

Popular Post KO7
My main concern for the rest of the series is how the refs do or don’t protect Quinn and Petey from cheapshots that should be called penalties. That ref who stood several metres away while Perron repeatedly attacked Quinn with the puck nowhere close should be disciplined for either being blind or plain incompetent at his job. Besides Markstrom, Quinn is the gamebreaker on the Canucks, and it’s obvious to the Blues now. Huggy Bear needs to be protected at all cost cause if he’s hobbling, this series is lost IMO. I don’t expect any more effort as they seem to be laying it all out there, which is all we can ask for. But there are still areas they can be better with, either with coaching or in game decision making. not faulting they for trying hard

The majority of the personnel has been the same, it's getting the team to refocus after a nervous start which is what a coach does along with the vets on the team. There is a chance the change in scenery changes Jake's attitude. Sucks for us if it happens, insert ghosts of Neely here. Who knows, if Jake can hang around on 1.5 million dollar contracts for a few more years he could be a cheap option for JB. Another 20 goal campaign though and 1.5 million per year will be in his rear view mirror. In the end if it came between losing Guadette or Jake to Seattle, I'd sooner lose Jake.

He is their Roussel, and if he can get into yhe players head, like his gotten into mine, it’ll be hard to win the series. Both Petey and Hughes are and will be targeted. This is the defining moment of how they and the team will cope. So far so good... His unpenalized crosscheck on Petey, and subsequent attempt to knock his head on the ice should warrant a suspension, but won't. Unfortunately, the players on the ice with Petey aren't first responders... Tanev, Hughes, Boeser. Miller would, but he is nursing his wrist injury, and was almost an "unfit to play" Time for the line blender for game 2 Zack on Petey's line, and Miller drops to center a line between Roussel and Gaudette (Zack played center in Utica, and is a decent faceoff man) Rest Beagle for a game to let his hand heal a bit, and play Sutter between Motte and Jake (or Bailey, if Green thinks Jake needs a 73rd wake up call) Replace Fanta with Juolevi, if we need better breakouts from that pairing with Myers, or Benn, if we want more truculence. Myers and Fanta are not a good pairing. Games 3 and 4 are back to back, so nagging injuries management needs to be factored in. For Beagle, one on - one off might accelerate the healing process. (With the luxury of a 1-0 lead, maybe give Graovac a taste ... he's played 70 NHL games, but never post season) But someone has to neutralize Perron
