Serious Question - Hooking in Canada Cup 87

Hello All,

 

I think this is my first post ever here. I was wandering through YouTube and looked at the Lemieux goal in the Canada Cup 87 game between Canada and USSR.. I remember watching the game and cheering for Canada even though I have a Russian background.

 

The Goal

 

Question: Would have the move by #10 (Hawerchuk) on #27 (I think it was Bykov, could be wrong) be called a hook today? 

 

Apologies if this has been beaten to death already - just interested in an opinion.

Was a famous waterskiing(throw the whistle away, at that point) play. Great goal/moment..but yeah

 

Btw, game 2 had to be the most amazing offensive game I've EVER watched. Lordee, that was a Helluva game! So many incredible plays. The Russian tally tying late(Kamensky? forget) was such an impressive, clutch display of skill.

i think there is a much higher chance of this getting called in the covid flow and atmosphere.

 

but if its grez and mario in toronto or edmonton.... no call to quell the masses.

As a Canadian back then I celebrated so hard when #66 scored that I ended up destroying a table full of Molson Canadians on it. Yes, what a goal, what a moment. I sat with a bunch of my friends watching the game who were all cheering for USSR then. What a sweet moment it was.
