VancouverHabitant
Top producers, DJs and bands get 2 hours, once a week, to put together a mix show for the audience, free of commercials. This has been going on since the mid 90s. So heads up to music lovers that this show is a buried treasure. It holds the history of electronic music over the last three decades. If you're into the old school rave scene, I probably don't need to tell you about it, but if you're fairly new-ish, you'll find a LOT of good stuff. Some of the most notable shows FOR ME are: 1997 Daft Punk - Introducing the world to their style 1999 Carl Cox the NYE set where he opened in Australia and then flew to Hawaii to close out the night. Pretty epic! 2008 Flying Lotus - credited with pioneering some of the grime sounds that came much later. 2011 Above & Beyond - Trance, with tons of soundtracks in there, a mix that really got me into that scene and I've loved how many awesome people I've met through it! 2013 Eric Prydz - I mean it's just an amazing 2 hour set, can't say much more 2013 Mat Zo - Carl Sagan narrating throughout, with everything mixed together so well.. it's a must listen 2014 Bonobo opens with Vangelis' Abraham's Theme and the set just flows continuously and seamlessly for the next two hours. Perfect chill mix! 2015 Claptone ... if you know someone that only likes hip hop and r&b, this is a good little intro as it's a very funky house mix 2016 The Avalanches ... a rare mix by the Aussie group, always a treat when it happens. 2016 Justice - one of my all time favourites! Got some Beatles, Charles Aznavour, NERO, just top notch! 2017 Mark Knight - old school motown, into hip hop into house into acid and finishing with the latest beats. 2019 Boris Brejcha dark techno, awesome! 2020 Claptone with another hot mix this year I could probably recommend another 50 but I'll stop here and I'm curious if anyone else got into it and what your favourite mixes are. Currently trying to do anything to take my mind off of game 1 If you would like the entire list, someone has made a nice wikipedia page for it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Essential_Mix_episodes

It airs on Friday night, going into Saturday morning UK time... so for us it's 5pm if you want to listen to it live, but you can find pretty much all the past shows on either YouTube, Soundcloud, Mixcloud or whatever else platform you'd like (no mixes on Spotify unfortunately). @Darius yes, I haven't listened to Oakenfold's Goa mix yet, but I've heard of it. I think I'll queue it up tonight!
