because what the protesters have been saying get run through Fox News and their ilk. If you listen beyond a sound bite you'd hear loud and clear that better mental heath funding is what people want, and to stop using this police for things they aren't trained for. Its all there, just listen for 5 minutes.

I'm all for more mental health funding. Up here too is sorely needed. I just don't like vilifying the police.

Most militarized police in the world, in most violent and crime ridden western nation and most armed nation on the planet.

Police kills people at higher rate than other countries, say it ain’t so, I am shocked!

Sorry was such a great quote needed to post twice on it - I think that plays such a huge part in this. Police are supposed to keep the peace and use diplomacy and dialogue whenever possible and any type of force only when necessary. The militarization of police forces in North America has created a lot of these problems.

I understand that, but I've also never been scared of the police. Heck, last time I was stopped I got an apology

Case in point - Edmonton Police force bought this couple years ago:

Mike, I actually know someone that worked with RCMP out in Surrey and told us that you wouldn't believe how many people they have pulled over that are carrying AK47s and other automatic guns.  We just think that it's not an issue here because we don't hear about it.

Take that how you will.

They started emptying out mental hospitals in the 1980s, we need more mental help.
We need more psychiatric beds, they take these people to jail because they have no beds in the institutions.

Cops are not trained to deal with all that, they are hammers, to hammer everything looks like a nail.

Don't get me wrong - I have had some amazing interactions with law enforcement and I get it - especially south of the border - you never know what you are going to encounter. And I truly believe the majority of law enforcement officers do the right thing but the fact remains the system is flawed and it seems to be happening more and more. The lack of transparency even here in Canada with police shooting is disconcerting. As I have already said de-funding the police is not the solution - education, public input and transparency are the key to solving this.

This entire movement is racist at it's core which is funny, "Black Lives Matter" implies the other lives don't. It's sad how easily people are brainwashed.

Oh wow you’re way off base, that’s not even close to what it implies. Yeesh, educate yourself.

Might want to read the one I posted from Statista where it shows African Americans killed by police at a much higher rate than whites.

There's something about police specifically in a position of authority abusing their power to kill someone that really tugs at the heart strings, especially caught on video. plus with all the blatantly brutal acts by police lately combined with existing rhetoric to abolish the police, emotions are high in an election season with media on over drive its a recipe for chaos with this new age of social media everything is out in the open and rightfully so

Bang on, it didn't really matter what the circumstances were here because of the history.  The moment that a black person getting shot by police was caught on video, the results were going to be the same.

This problem runs deep and is terribly multi layered. Police 'malpractice' is just the tip of the iceberg. You have of course poor and outdated police training. Then the black community being indifferent toward the police. Many are raised poor and uneducated with no proper guidance coz father either ran away, in jail or dead. Black kids end up muddled in crime at young age hating the police. Resisting arrest becomes the norm coz of black killing cop stigma which is also kind of real due to inadequacies in police training.

Root cause though is poverty. One sure way to get out of that is education, as Charles Barkley always preach. Racism exists EVERY WHERE. In all parts if the world. Let's not kid ourselves. Even we are sometimes discriminating towards our neighbors. Name of the game is self preservation, survival. How to beat that is thru education.

I'm not having any luck finding the video i saw

It may have been the one i think @MikeBossy showed a link saying it was false/false news.

I think it may have been the hodge twins video that had the graphic.

Apologies! I am wrong.

I honestly didn't know it was false news

I hope i didn't come off as a dick. I love debate and after seeing what someone else posted I went and did some reading up on the whole thing.

So how about them Canucks, eh?

GCG!

I have a feeling this short pause will help the team's chances.

They've conducted themselves well off the ice and on the ice. Proud of this team regardless if they make the next round or not.

Ah no worries, sounded pretty dodgy but I was genuinely interested in seeing it.

a big part of the problem is we've been trying to use the police to solve social and mental health issues, they just aren't trained for it.

I do worry a lot more about car travel in the US as well.
