Popular Post -Vintage Canuck-
Jim Benning confirms Jacob Markstrom was back skating and may have been available for the next round if needed. Quotes from Jim Benning: "I believe we need to have two good goalies. It was nice to see him get a chance and see him rise to the occasion. Ian Clark has worked really hard with him. To see him play that well was nice for everyone involved." "I've had some calls from other GM's this morning now that we're out. We're going to get a good read on the marketplace before the draft and we'll react to that. Having said that, it stings being out, you're still a little bit mad. We have a lot of business ahead." On spending to the cap: "That's a conversation I'm going to have with ownership. Our goal is to make the playoffs going forward and to progress as an organization and as a team." "Our group was really committed... I thought we were way better defensively in Edmonton. Took away 2nd and 3rd opportunities from high danger areas. The attention to detail, the back-pressure, how hard guys worked without the puck, we've taken a step in that direction." On Toffoli: "He's a veteran player. He was supposed to be out almost twice the amount of time he was. I talked to Petey and he said he really helped him." On young defencemen: "They're going to be in the mix. Thought Juolevi, Chatfield had a good training camp and could have played if we needed them. I like the depth we have on the blueline going forward. Have some good young defensemen going to push for jobs." On Markstrom: "I talked to Jacob's agent yesterday. He's an important guy in our group, he's a leader. He was the MVP of our group over the course of the season. We want him back. We'll start working on that this week." On draft: "Todd Harvey has been doing an excellent job with that, having zoom calls with our area scouts, working on the list... We don't have a 1st or 2nd so we'll have to see what happens here in the next month to see if we can recover a couple picks." "I will not be moving 1st and 2nd round picks to move out money." "...Jake [Virtanen] was a guy I was expecting to do more for us..." ”Tanev is a big part of the heart and soul of our team. If we can get him signed I’d like to get him signed.” “Juolevi looks like he is ready to play in the NHL full time.” Quotes from Travis Green: "It's still fairly fresh and upsetting we lost. It's invaluable what the players have gone through... Knowing what it takes to win. It's a lot. I'm proud of what our group did. It's a learning experience & should drive the hunger and preparation gearing up for years to come." “With a young team that didn’t have playoff experience, we believed in our group and to see how they performed, it’s hard not to be proud of our group.” “Did it surprise me that Motte played well? No it didn’t. He’s built for playoff hockey. He’s fast, strong, sturdy, brave, goes to hard places and pays a price to get the job done which is so important in playoff hockey.” On stick-rack: “I had nothing to do with it. When I found out they were doing it I told them it was a good idea. The players loosened up and laughed about it. The trainers did a hell of a job putting that together.“ 3 3 1

Popular Post -DLC-
On Tyler Toffoli: (Benning) was likely still a ways away from being healthy (came back about halfways into when he should have) but wanted to play and so maybe a bit earlier than planned/was still a bit banged up. Petey said TT helped him a lot in the room as a veteran player who shared his experience and to just enjoy the opportunity to be there/play. Love guys who want to play...they will play, you know they'll play.... 3 1
-DLC-
Demko's play and how it works into Marky discussion to Benning: nice to have two good goalies. Talked to Marky's agent yesterday...Marky's an important guy/leader/MVP over course of season so figure out something that makes sense...makes Jacob and his agent happy. Want him back/start working on it this week. May take: Glad to hear it (honestly). With Demko, it gives the team a bit more leverage in a proven option (in limited sample size) through Demko. Has to be something reasonable or we walk away because we have to think about age/term/how much we get tied in to players. We should have learned a lot over the recent past and be wary of anything that could impact other situations.

-DLC-
Benning talk of "tough decisions"...."maybe even some young players" in order to see the best fit/give the best chance moving forward. That part worries me...but I guess there are some things you have to give up to get something you need. Very measured decisions I'd imagine. Stech and Jake are the two young guys that feel like they will likely be casualties of the cap crunch.
-DLC-
I love that they're addressing being outshot because they expected it...planned for it. Eliminate high danger plays and try to keep them outside. It seems that Dallas took that from our playbook too. So people who just think they were "all over us" (they were at times)....they were ready for the onslaught. It wasn't just "OMGOMG" panic. They had a plan in place to address it...even if it's not the best overall plan. 1

I doubt we'd get much in the way of details so they have to ask questions that sort of "work it in"...with that, some of them are kind of simple. We are a promising team now. Will be cheaper especially with flat cap to find a decent 3C. Edited September 8, 2020 by Rush17

The truth is most questions fans would want asked they wouldn't be willing to answer publicly anyway. Question: "What are you going to do about Louie"? Answer: "We'll being looking at our options on all our players moving forward". The media knows the questions they just won't answer. In a situation like this where they only get to ask one question they're not going to waste it asking a question they know won't be answered. No management team is going to lay out their entire strategy as it can affect contract negotiations and trade opportunities. 3 1 1
