[Signing] Kings re-sign Sean Walker

Recommended Posts

Well, so much for hoping for 1.5 from Stecher unless he takes that fabled hometown discount. Lol. Walker isn't much better, if you can even argue that he is better than Stech. He ate more minutes and scored more points. But does Walker do that on a good team? Probably not. 2mil for Stech in all likelihood. That's probably best case scenario with this signing.

I like Troy but thats too much for him.

That could be out of the Canucks' hands if they qualify him.  It's less than the walk-away amount.

Lots of teams are going to have to decide whether they wish to risk arbitration or not.

The deadline to qualify RFAs is the 6th (draft day).  The deadline for players to file for arbitration is the 10th - the day after the opening of free agency.

tbh I think if they can't reach a very team friendly deals they let him go to UFA.

Ya, I think that happened with Hutton.

I don't think its a bad move tbh. The "asset management" crowd will freak out and pull a Corrado bitch fest, but it would tell Troy what his market value is and if there's room left here after Marky, Toffoii and Tanev re-up then he can decide what he wants. I just can't see Stech getting offers over 2 mil this offseason due to the covid losses/cap.

Yea, in a normal year I could see Troy having earned a 9M over 3 year deal but with COVID, of all players, I could see him taking a hometown discount. 5.2-5.5 over two years or 8-8.1 over 3 seems reasonable with everything going on, and still gives him a decent raise in real dollars.

I think the best he gets offered, if he does get an offer from us which I'm not sure he will tbh, would be ~2 mil for one year.

I don't know - he was given 2.3M last time and I think he's only improved, esp. showing another gear at times in the playoffs. Cap/covid make things unpredictable for sure - but my money is with a 2.5-275 a year deal at minimum.

covid cap + our own cap problems makes that unlikely tho. There's also going to be a lot of serviceable bottom pairing guys on the market.

Yeah, we will see. I think Benning will offer him a slight raise out of respect but really the market has never been so unpredictable. There are some UFAs I would definitely have interest in on the bottom pairing that may sign in a similar range: Zach Bogosian, Mark Pysyk, maybe Dylan DeMelo. So early to tell though, esp. if Benning  brings back any D with a trade.
