Why not just ride out his last 2 years, and then this, the recapture, sutter, beagle and Edler I believe are all up. At that point we get a lot of cap space and also still have A good number of ELC players. That is when the window really starts

Exactly, people are so stressed...

well this is encouraging. I don't think LeBrun puts Barry's name out there like this unless there's something cooking. Maybe they're checking one more time to see if any other GMs call but this reeks of Melnyk.

Ottawa is actually a very a nice city with some very good restaurants.

Lived in Vancouver and then moved to Ottawa for 16 years. It's an amazing city. Doesn't have the nature that Vancouver does, but it's an incredible place to live.

Throwing the coach under the bus for not continuing to gift him unearned minutes while LE floated around the ice and refused to put in an honest effort is conduct detrimental to the team though.  LE should have acted like a professional and keep his mouth shut instead of blaming Green for his disgraceful effort on the ice, especially when Green had publicly defended our 6 million dollar bum to the media.  Freedom of speech does not mean you get to publicly complain about you overly generous boss with zero consequences.

lol, yeah like he's the first player to call out his coach, teammates or organization?

Bruce Arians just called out freaking Tom Brady for Christ' Sake!....should he be suspended without pay?  Geez, both logic and objectivity just took a hit today.

Because he is utterly useless and we lose out on having an actual top 6 forward like Toffoli or top 4 dman.

We can get Toff in without shipping out LE. If we get hasty it will end up costing us picks or prospects or roster players to get rid, whereas if we ride it out we still get to add those prospects in a few years and we can use the picks to get other players or new prospects. We could gut the team to get rid of all the contacts the fans want gone and then have nothing left to trade for players and just be stuck with UFA overpayments

Then we lose a top 4 dman.. Eriksson is taking up not only a roster spot but 6m cap that can go towards a top 6 forward or top 4 dman. You only have Miller for 3 more years you can't waste it on holding on to Eriksson if you can dump him for a reasonable cost.

I've only been there a few times but I did enjoy it. Spent most of my time in byward or museums if I wasn't trapped in a conference, but it seemed nice for sure. Let just say, it ain't Regina.

Nobody “gave him” anything. He was signed as a free agent.  It didn’t work out. That happens.  But it’s not like Vancouver did him a huge favour and he had no other options in free agency.

He sure hasn't "earn" the $30Million plus the Canucks have paid him based on what they thought he would offer.  Does he have any honor, or just greed at the expense of his employer and teammates who may have to be moved out or paid less because he can't admit the game has passed him by.

Sure they signed him to a contract.  So did he in good faith knowing full well why they paid him all that dough.  There are 2 sides to every contract not just "hey you signed me so pound sand even though I suck and no one wants me and I am a running joke"

He hasn't earned what he has been paid so let's stick around for more of what he hasn't earned.  I wonder how his team mates feel.  I know I wouldn't be a fan.

Was curious so looked up LE stats and added them up.

Before coming to Vancouver - 504 points in 724 games played. For 0.7 points per game over his career to that point

Since arriving in Vancouver - 89 points in 245 games. For a points per game or 0.36

Hes half the player for us. Really really hope he’s moved out.

Sources say Canucks GM Jim Benning and Eriksson’s agent J.P. Barry had a chat this week about it.

After the chat, Benning called 15 GMs in regards to a possible Eriksson trade. All 15 laughed and hung up.

Eriksson to New Jersey for Schneider, then buyout Schneider. Add a small sweetener (mid-round pick, B-level prospect) if needed.

Both Eriksson and Schneider have the same cap for the same amount of years; however, Schneider is owed $12M for the remainder of his contract whereas Eriksson is owed just $5M.

There would be $7M in cash savings for New Jersey. A Schneider buy-out costs $2M/yr for the next 4 years, which would give the Canucks $4M in cap savings for the next 2 seasons, followed by a $2M cap hit for the following 2 years.

If the Aquilini's could stomach a buy-out in a COVID/flat-cap world, it would be a great solution to clear $4M in cap for the next 2 years without giving up a big asset such as a first round pick or a top prospect.

I think in this scenario NJ would actually have to add. They are getting cash savings for the same cap hit + the fact that LE can still actually play in the NHL.

Is it sad that I’m surprised he even has 89 points with us? In 4 years it feels like he’s literally just done nothing on offense. If his cap hit was like 1.5 or 2 mil I’d love the guy as a 4th line player and PK guy. But his offensive game in Vancouver has been trash since day 1. I hope Benning can swindle someone into taking him without having to give up a lot.

My one big fear in trying to trade him is because of his NTC, the team taking him I believe automatically would have to protect him in the expansion draft, and I can’t even see a team like Ottawa wanting to deal with that. He’s a hard player to trade with his NTC and cap hit, but also the expansion draft is another debacle itself. So if we can’t move him by then, we’re really in trouble next offseason.
