Popular Post TrickOfShapes
https://canucksarmy.com/2020/09/22/loui-eriksson/ Quote Loui Eriksson was the Canucks’ least engaged and productive forward of the 2020 playoffs, and he’s signed for another two seasons September 22, 2020, 8:00 AM | Kevin Wong ... One can not help but notice just how slowly Eriksson moves the puck. There are numerous instances in our footage when he gains control of it in his own end, but then decides only to chip it into the neutral zone or guide it in the general vicinity of a teammate while not executing a tape-to-tape pass. He makes low-percentage plays that do not advance the Canucks’ attack and instead give the opponent chances to regroup with possession of the puck. He does not offer any significant degree of transition ability as far as puck distribution is concerned. Eriksson hustles with an adequate degree of effort at both ends of the ice. However, once he is near the opposing puck carrier, he does not then engage aggressively enough with his stick or his body. His stick checking is often passive, and he does not force the opponent to battle for possession. When there are opportunities to poke the puck away from the opponent, he hesitates and provides them with too much space to maintain control. As a result, his average number of takeaways per 60 minutes of ice time in the 2020 playoffs was lower than that of any of the other regular Canucks forwards. He recorded just one takeaway over a span of ten matches, an average of 0.37 per 60. The only regular roster member with a lower takeaway average was Alex Edler, but Edler’s position excuses him to some degree because his style of play as a blue-liner involves eliminating the opponent from the play and letting his defence partner retrieve the puck. Loui Eriksson, as a forechecker, is expected to pressure the opponent and generate opposition turnovers, especially in the offensive zone. This does not occur on a regular basis. He utilizes his frame to tie up the opposing player and to impede them, but he does not often engage to the point of being able to win his battles. He can sometimes free the puck for a nearby teammate, but he needs significant support. Eriksson was the Canucks’ least physical forward and the second-least physical among the team’s regular contributors. His five hits in ten games equated to 1.88 hits per 60. Of the Canucks’ regular skaters, only 5’10”, 170-pound Quinn Hughes threw fewer hits per 60 minutes than Eriksson. ... Read more at Canucks Army. He has consistently scored 10 goals per year since becoming a Canuck!! That is great production for a 15th forward

Indeed, especially when one of his line mates manages to score more goals than anyone in the postseason at that time. 3
Popular Post Patel Bure
We all know that Eriksson is a zero offensively these days. Ignoring his cap however, he is still an excellent defensive player and very rarely makes mistakes. He’s obviously not worth his cap hit but he’s also a lot more useful than you think. Anyways, we’re unlikely to get rid of him this off season and so there’s no point complaining about the guy. 2 2
Popular Post -DLC-
What this fails to observe is that these little chip plays often get us out of trouble as we're being pressured and/or hemmed in our own end. We'd all love the pretty break out passes but if there's no one to pass to because you're not on the rush and everyone's scrambling, then what? If he's just clearing the zone to get us out of trouble that matters. Sure, he is a little too passive but that's also part of how he plays and is sometimes more of a settling things down mode than an attack mode. Would it be ideal if he did both? Sure. But at times we're on our heels and it's more a matter of taking over possession and transitioning with the puck than going on the immediate and all out attack. Not defending his production and there is a definite lack of physicality....but he also isn't the big zero that he's often made out to be. He is 35...he's just not fitting with this team in relation to the age/speed/skill here...that much is obvious. But the way he plays is just how these slower/older guys sometimes adapt (or don't). It's why I'm reluctant to sign ANY 30+ players at this point...especially for high dollar amounts and/or longer terms. You just never know when they'll drop off in play...Loui came here as a 30 goal/60+ points player. Who knew the decline would be so drastic? 5 2
Popular Post Dazzle
He obviously wasn't a good fit from the very beginning. This signing is on Benning - and all the fans including myself who thought signing Eriksson would rejuvenate the Sedins. 1 2
ruilin96
Is he overpaid? Yes. Is he completely and utterly useless? No. If he is making league minimum, everyone would love Loui. On another note, everyone loves Tyler Motte (I love Motte as well), but if Motte makes $6 million, Motte would be a whipping boy as well for the fan base. Unfortunately, in a cap world, overpaid players (on any team) just becomes that fanbase favourite whipping boy. Exactly, at the time, I thought it was a good signing as well base on the following: 1). Loui just scored 30 goals in Boston the year before and the Canucks needed a goal scorer. (Unfortunately, he turned out to be the opposite of a goal scorer) 2). Loui had chemistry with the Sedins at the International level and could rejuvenate the Sedins (Unfortunately, the chemistry was non-existent at the NHL level) 3). Loui was also considered a good 2 way forward who could kill penalties (Which is his primary role these days when he is in the line-up) 4). Even knowing the contract would eventually be a bad one due to its length, I still thought for atleast the first 2-3 years, he would be scoring at a 20 goals and 50 point pace. (unfortunately, he did not score anywhere close to this pace) 5). At the time, I hope he would be a veteran presence in the last 2-3 years of his contract to help guide the young group of Canucks onto the NHL level. (He is still a veteran on this team, and I do think his teammates appreciate him) This is just an unfortunate signing and no one foresee his offense completely falling off of a clip the moment he signed here. Popular Post Provost
Eriksson has the wheels to avoid delivering hits at a rate above virtually every other forward in the league who played at least 20 games! On a nearly conference final level team, Eriksson was amongst the most responsible in ensuring his shifts remained short and the team could roll their other, more effective lines. A consumate team-mate and model of consistency, Eriksson’s effort level never wavered, whether he was in the press box, on the ice, or partaking in his pre-game nap routine.
