[Proposal] Eriksson for Lundqvist

Why for the Rangers?  They have two excellent young goalies in Shesterkin and Georgiev.  Both have proven they can play in the league and sending one to the minors (non-existent minors) might be a tough move to pull off.  They save 2.5 mil from their cap hit this year.

Why for us?  Lundqvist is only on the books for one more year as opposed to Loui's two years left.  It gives us cap relief when we need it the most, next summer.   Lundqvist can still play and gives us a great goalie tandem with Demko for next year.  It softens the blow big time if we let Marky walk (the extra 2.5 mil hit over Loui is not bad compared to what it would cost to resign Marky).  Lastly, we cement ourselves as the number 1 team in all of Sweden and may as well change our colours to the blue and yellow :)

No would not take on more salary, that extra 1.7 million for Lundqvist will affect us signing players this year...

Marky walks we sign a veteran backup under 3 million we now save  3 million as Marky will get at least 6 million as a UFA...

We are very tight against cap,  every million effects not signing another player..

You would actually save more by going the King Henrik route. You are only paying 1.7M for the backup to be Lundqvist because he gets paid 1.7 more than Eriksson. Eriksson is replaced from within (Motte, Macewan) so his replacement costs very little cap.

That being said I don't think Lundquist waives to get traded

This makes no sense for the Rangers. There has already been chatter that the Rags may buyout Lundqvist's remaining year of his contract, in order to make room for Strome, Lemieux, and DeAngelo's RFA extensions. Trading Lundqvist, who has 1 year left on his contract for a two year remaining contract, even at $2.5M less, makes no sense for them.

LE + Markstrom @6 = 11, vs Lundqvist @8.5.   We save 2.5 million, which in our cap spot is a pretty big deal.  Dump Baertschi for a pick and you have the money to go after a guy like Dillon for our D.

We'd need to add more for NYR to take it.  Virtanen/Stecher could be enough.
