lol I'm listening to this right now. Yeah, he wants to play here. Would be great, if he's willing to accept a hometown discount.

Me too. Hometown discount and I'm all game.

I see no reason why he wouldn't take a big discount to be here. Teams on the verge of a dynasty... better jump on the boat ASAP

He's exactly the type of D we need in the 3rd pair.

Big physical 18-20 minute defensive D. Pretty well established player. Willing to drop the gloves.

If he comes at a discount it would be pretty worth it. Only downside then would be that is a LD.

thx for clarifying for me.::D

Dillon was on a 5-year deal with a 3.27M aav and a final year at 3.9M.

Washington tried to extend him and himself said he wanted to return.  They've agreed he'd test free agency and could circle back to them.

Agreed.

Would rather keep Tanev anyway - yes, I know Tanev will cost more but he's plays a lot of minutes against top opponents and is a one-man penalty killer plus Tanev's value in mentoring Hughes is worth the extra over other possible options imo.

Keep Tanev, sign a league min guy like Fanta, play OJ and/or Rafferty and unfortunately don't qualify Stecher.

Wouldn't that scenario give us pretty much the exact same D as this year where we got destroyed by Vegas?  I'm thinking Benning wants to actually upgrade the D, not just bring back the exact same players and add someone from Utica.

I really liked Joel Edmundson.  Montreal did a great piece of business by only giving up a late pick to get his rights to be able to negotiate with him directly, and Bergevin I think got a great deal at $3.5m for 4 years for someone who is only 27 years old.

Dhillon would be a good fit here.  I don't think he should be getting a better contract than Edmundson.  At $3m for 3 years I would do it in a heartbeat.  Some people want to being back Fanta, but Benning is looking to upgrade the D and bring more truculence which Dhillon would provide.  We would have excess on the left side so perhaps Benning can work out a trade that can bring in a right handed D to play with Quinn.  If we are going to offer Juolevi, Virtanen and a 1st as some have speculated to get OEL, why not send that exact package to Boston for Brandon Carlo?

Adding Carlo and Dhillon to our D will give us exactly what Benning is wanting to do which is upgrade on size, strength and truculence.

It’s funny how many people want these haggard older vets. Then defend Jims drafting, We have d prospects that have been in the system Some for 4+ years but nobody wants to see them in the nhl are none good enough wouldn’t that indicate crappy drafting past the first round.

i don’t wAnt to see Old over paid vets float around when we have guys that have busted there asses working to make this teAm only to be once again buried behind handcuffing crap contracts. Sign demellow or whatever trade for oel

then trade all the d prospects in the system so they can actually be given a opportunity   to play . Because clearly that won’t happen here.

Dillon would bring a much needed truculence to the D. They were missing this in the playoffs.

Agreed. Outside of Myers and Fanta, our D wasn't overly physical or intimidating. Eagle played hard and was a warrior but was often a step behind but he made up for it with his positioning and savy veteran mind.

I agree, and luckily for Hughes, he's such a gifted skater, he mainly kept out of harm's way.

Watching them getting hammered by Vegas' big forwards, they had a lot of trouble getting the puck out of their own end. Markstrom, when they re-sign him, needs to have better D in front of him.

Getting a guy like Dillon (assuming we can make the cap work) would be almost perfect for us, would allow Juolevi and/or Rathbone to spend the entire season in Utica too. Now if we get OEL...

Hughes - xxxx

OEL - Myers

Edler - Dillon

Still need that top RD but that has the makings of a pretty nice defense.

Cool that the Canucks are a team players want to sign with again

just wait until Benning offers $20 schmil over 2 years to a semi-retired 40 year old. that'll REALLY put Vancouver on the map.

So I checked this guy’s stats and in 10 games for the Caps, he had 0 goals and 0 assists. He has 1 goal and 13 assists for the Sharks in the same season.

He is obviously not a point producer. Don’t know much about him. Is he a good defensive defenceman? He good physically? Can he fight well?

If Benning feels Brogan is worth a shot in the bigs (and I do), it could very well look like:

Hughes - Dillon

OEL - Myers

Edler - Rafferty

Dillon is a better shutdown guy than some realize. He may be no Tanev, but he plays far bigger and I think the tradeoff wouldn't be THAT bad. Saves maybe 1.5m cap? Plus, this D should be able to be on the offensive more than the one this past season.

Which of our young prospects brings a style of game similar to what Dillon brings?  Woo is the closest comparable and he definitely needs some seasoning in Utica.  If you'd ever seen Dillon play, you'd realize that floating is not likely to be an issue.

Yes, he brings a lot of that style of game.  He'd be a fan favorite here if we got him.
