So I checked this guy’s stats and in 10 games for the Caps, he had 0 goals and 0 assists. He has 1 goal and 13 assists for the Sharks in the same season.

He is obviously not a point producer. Don’t know much about him. Is he a good defensive defenceman? He good physically? Can he fight well?

I wonder why this seems to be a very common fan generated prerequisite for players when there might a rumor or report that a player would like to join a club perhaps ?

Not a shot at you just something i've noticed quite commonly, like no if Brenden Dillon was interested in joining the Canucks and it was mutual they'd work out a contract.

It's not really a "prerequisite", it's that very often when a player wants to come home, they'll take less to make it happen. Just like it takes more money to lure a player to a location that he doesn't want to go.

What I find stranger is the obsession with bringing back local boys solely by virtue of the fact they're from here. Not a shot at Dillon he's a solid D, but quite often when a player is rumoured to be on the block fans often drastically overvalue their worth just to get the homegrown product on their team. With the Canucks for example, every time a BC boy becomes available you see proposals of people trying to sell the farm to bring them here when they aren't worth more than a couple cows, and I can only speculate its because people want local talent on their team.

sports are all about giving fans the warm and fuzzies, and a good hometown hero story works well to move the needle in that direction.

I get that, and I'm definitely on board for BC boys on the Canucks, but I'm talking about grossly overvaluing players because of where they're from, with people proposing things Podkolzin + Hoglander + 2021 First + The Deed to Rogers Arena for 1 year of Tyson Barrie. I only see gross overvaluing like that for local guys. Or Alberta boys in the case of the Oilers/Flames fans, French players for Montreal, etc.

Which of our young prospects brings a style of game similar to what Dillon brings?  Woo is the closest comparable and he definitely needs some seasoning in Utica.  If you'd ever seen Dillon play, you'd realize that floating is not likely to be an issue.

JB ufas Signings have been over all At total disaster.
The games getting younger and faster but Vancouver doesn’t want to go with the model that’s the only way to build long term under a Salary cap And that’s develop and use the young guys.

as for Dillon I’ve  seen him play he’s been in the league almost TEN YEARS. Ten years of wear and tear
he’s getting paid for what he’s done not what he will do.

Jb needs to use his so called drafting and talent finding skills so many in here rave about to get some young cheap players that can Or are close to being what a 4-6 dman brings.
Ownership shouldn’t let Jb  talk to any ufas until a month past the ufa opening happens. His best signings are the late to last minute ones fantaberg vanek.

His signings have improved over time but more so his trading has.

Might prefer trying to trade for a D or two but cannot deny Dillion is the type of D we need and now players want to come here which definitely wasn’t the case In years past.

I maintain that largely, his circumstances and leverage have improved, not his ability to sign and trade.

Yeah you can make a strong case for that given that we’ve improved and have been on the uptrend.

Personally I feel that it is a bit of both his ability and the circumstances, more so the circumstances.

Well yeah, people tend to learn/improve with experience but it's like 95% circumstance/leverage, 5% Benning got smarter/better.

Yeah for sure.

The Early Benning might have given Myers and extra year, little things like that.

Are UFAs actually UFAs yet?

No - free agency opens the 9th of October.  Players still belong to their teams till then.  Players who have been bought out are UFAs though as there's no contract anymore.

And if I understand correctly, they've eliminated the "interview period" this year, where teams and pending free agents could 'talk' about interest, fit, role, etc but not negotiate terms.

So when free agency does open, there may not be quite as much rapid fire signings off the bat...it may take a bit more time to work out, and added to that is the extra mitigating circumstances of a stalled cap, etc.   The 'frenzy' which seems to have tapered off a bit in recent years - maybe even moreso this year.

tampa just won with a defense full of guys with 10 years league experience so im not sure what youre saying.   St Louis did the year before.

Im not saying Dillhon fits but you don't win with a team full of 25 year olds. You win with veterans whove been through the trenches along with the youngsters.

I would also like to hear the answer from some of those who say this.

It reminds me of when Eric Tilman was hired as Lions GM. Back when I listened to sports radio.

Tilman is American, a place that includes a city refered to as ChiTown

Tilman does an interview where he says "I hear Vancouver is a real nice town, and I am looking forward to working there"

A caller phones in and says, "Someone should tell Tilman that Vancouver is a world class city"

So I am guessing the answers would be, "Because anybody would be lucky to play in a world call city"

"The Canucks are a class orginization"

"Everyone should feel honored to play with Petey and Quinn"

"It doesn't snow"
