Provost
According to 1040, Vegas can’t get anyone to take MAF salary at 50% retained even if they give up a 2nd rounder. Other teams wants a 1st. I take Fleury at 50% retained if they give us a 2nd. Move on from a Markstrom “potential” deal and save the money for something else. EDIT: As per below, it seems like they want to give their 2nd to a team who is willing to take half of MAFs salary but then flip him to a 3rd team who will only take him at 50% retained. Popular Post UKNuck96
Except they are not shopping MAF for 50% retained for a second - they are looking for a intermediary team to take 50% retention and then flip to another party. they probably already have a deal lined up for MAF and the receiving team is demanding 50% retention and Vegas are trying to find a way of doing it without eating their own cap space 1 3

A lot cheaper than what Marky wants and MAF is still elite. Plus a second? Wow

Why would we NOT do that deal. Markstrom hasn’t signed yet and reportedly wants more than the Lehner contract. Markstrom at $6 million x 5-6 years is a worse deal to me than MAF at $3.5 for two years... throwing in the draft pick is gravy to me. That $2.5 million could loom large! 1 1

The straight up 50% retained for a 2nd seems like too much of a no brainer to be true.

They are asking a team to retain 50% for a 2nd round pick - he would then be traded further to another for a return. Fleury at 3.5M has value. But MAF will need to be protected, NTC. That leaves Demko exposed.
flickyoursedin
So to my understanding is they’re offering a 2nd rounder to a team to take on 50% of MAF contract while a third party team would receive MAF at 50% and give something back to Vegas in the deal? MAF at 50% probably brings them a better return than the team eating cap for no player and just a 2nd round pick. 1

For Fleury at 100%, I'd want their 1st for next year (gamble that it will be worse than this year's), and an additional sweetner on top of that. regards, G. Not interested in helping Vegas, they're a divisional rival we're competing with directly. Edited October 6, 2020 by Coconuts 1

I think it would be strategically great to help them get Pietrangelo... then again I think any team might start to regret that contract in 3 years. They are welcome to an anchor contract right when we think we might be able to compete with them!
