With the WHL opening up again, do y'all think Persson would come over to play with the Blazers, or stay in Sweden?

I'd figure he stays in Sweden and perhaps join over maybe once his season there ends.

Once all of the pieces come together in a few years, I have a full expectation that JB will be regarded as the best GM in this teams history.  Anyone who thought we'd get through a near  scorched earth rebuild smoothly is nuts.  This year sucks, but I think it is neccesary.  Adding a real high pick to this group is not the worst thing.

Perfectly timed too. No pressure from fans paying for seats

Hands up who has ever heard the term "deflection"  while the team stinks the joint out, some try hard to deflect that image by drawing our attention to the prospects. Not all will become household names and few will become franchise type players. It reminds me of " Nero fiddled while Rome burned,” Holtby is quickly becoming Ericksson/ Ferland  Mk2 Jim bless his cotton socks is a gambler and I'm not inclined to believe that can be considered a winning formula :)  ..... wait for it abuse enroute

How so? I don’t even see the similarity between Erickson and Ferland. One hasn’t lived up to his contract and the other has had his career derailed by injuries.
Holtby is only signed to a 2 year deal and is only playing average.

Can’t compare him to Loui.

My point, rightly or  wrongly is JB has betted that all three could reconstruct their careers, all three have failed and come with large Cap hits ...... reasonable ?? You can't manage with betting being a large part of your thinking IMHO

Actually the big gamble would have been to sign Markstrom to a 6x6 contract versus signing a Stanley Cup champion to a 2 year short term deal to back up our future star in Demko. Thank God Benning didn’t go to the casino on Markstrom and took the safe bet on Holtby.  Poor Calgary. Their team is completely screwed now.

Maybe, I don't believe that but it is a possibility. Edmonton beat us with a 39 year old goalie. Maybe the answer is some one like the kid from Port Alberni in the Winnipeg net at $1.5. Holtby won the SC in 2018 last season ...last season Holtby had a Sv% 0.897 which is more important a 2018 SC or a Sv % of 0.897.???  Why did Washington give up on this SC Champion you might ask, well there's a old hockey saying that goes like this ... you're judged on your last shift. The thinking is Seattle will maybe take Holtby..... Ron Francis is not that crazy. Holtby is going to be in Vcr with his $4.3 mill next season and then likely retire or sign else where for a lot less. I hope he says thanks for the $8.6 million you paid me

Yes you are only as good as your last shift. The last two shift’s Markstrom played he got pulled out of the net before the 3rd period.  Imagine having to pay a goalie $6 million for another 5 years after he gets pulled his last 2 games?  If I lived in Calgary I would definitely be on the lookout for Flames fans who are walking alone on bridges or near train tracks.

As for Holtby, hey at least he hasn’t gotten pulled yet. That’s a positive. Maybe if Edler stops giving up the puck in front of of his own net Holtby’s save percentage might improve.

I honestly don’t think that all those who bash our players/management are even fans when the team is winning many of those GOOFS don’t ever post.

Small mercy,  he hasn't been pulled yet. That's more of a reflection  on the compacted schedule but the question should be has he deserved to be pulled with a Sv% of 0.897. If your goalie is under 0.9 Sv% you're in trouble bro. Washington knew he's past his shelf life date and dumped him. But we thought  that $4.3 mill as just what we needed in a back up, reading my own post I can't believe what's happening.

Here's a quote from Canucks Arm

Quote
"It’s a crushing feeling to see that the Ottawa Senators’ bottom-six is outscoring the Canucks’ bottom six. Not because they are the Ottawa Senators, but because they only have one player in their bottom-six being paid over 1.5 million dollars. Currently, the Canucks have three players making over 1.5 million dollars and that trio has a total of six five-on-five goals this season. That is mostly on the back of Brandon Sutter’s eight crazy nights at the end of January when he looked dangerous every shift."

The current situation is all about Cap Management, you know the system Gilman was # 1 in  ::D and to be truthful Holtby is part of that problem. These  attempts to rebuild with damaged good or part due players is a huge gamble and we see that in the seasons success or lack of

I'm not sure why we are talking about Holtby still in this thread, but I will say that he has been responsible for the most important game in our turnaround this season.  It was just another 5-1 loss in the making, or whatever the score was and he scolded JT Miller for not skating hard enough when he gave him the audible "What the F... .."

Holtby has lost games where we would continually give up breakaways and 2 on 1s.  I don't think that he's played bad, we're just lucky that we have a great goalie in Demko who is injury prone!

Making a safe bet by signing Holtby to only two years because of the uncertainty (Demko's first time being the starting goalie and his injury history) is not that big of a deal.

Now, how about that Viktor Persson kid?  Where is he now?  Is his season over?  Any chance of seeing him playing in WHL?

I wrote that on the third of March. Think of this which team do you think is going to join a line to pick up Holtby. A Sv% 0.89 and a contract of $4.3 mill. I think his next job will be sitting by a pool in Florida
