Still a pretty decent contract.... $5 million per for a ~50 points guy.

Anyone knows why his game just drastically dropped?  I mean he was playing at PPG in the regular season and the post-season.

Ice time, since Tampa is so stacked. He averaged 14:33 a game last year

If that's the case, I certainly hope that GMJB does his due diligence for this guy.  His contract isn't that bad and his production is decent.  A centre who can play the wing and shoots right.

I thought there was a similar discussion around Loui, but people thought it would be considered cap circumvention?

I can't recall.  As long as the player is not on an NMC he can be waived.  Any team can pick him up.  Probably doesn't make agents or player happy but not sure there is anything that can prevent it.

Hornqvist said he lifted his NTC because Florida really wanted him and he figured that Pittsburgh could just put him on waivers and he'd be picked up by Florida.  Florida would have then likely made a separate deal to move Matheson to Pittsburgh.

Damn - watched him all playoffs and was very impressed

Wonder if this is punishment for not waiving his NTC - like, will they assign him to the AHL if he clears? Also gotta think Yzerman will consider claiming him

As much as this would seem like a great fit for us (and for most organizations), we need an NHL Dman. We CANNOT enter next season with a worse D than we had this past season. Tanev leaving left a huge hole in our top 4D, a top 4D that was a bit shaky on some nights (Thank-You Markstrom!) If we want to take that next step and be one of the top 8 teams in the league, we need to shore up our D.

Great. Time for JB to offer sheet one of Cernak or Sergachev. No more Mr Nice Guy JB. F Tampa and nice guys finish last.

They both just won a cup in Tampa. I assume they’ll both assume Tampa I’ll find the money to pay them. I don’t see them signing an offer sheet until it becomes clear they won’t get contracts they want.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Money talks and correct, they just won a cup. Conversely though, they just won a cup so now let's sign for dollars.

I'm not an advocate for the offersheet route but Johnson clearing makes it a bit clearer

Absolutely. Tampa is screwed so JB makes the call and offers up our first to snag Sergachev or try to make a deal for either Cernak or Serg. If Tampa doesn't want to dance JB offers sheets his target.

Are you actually surprised he cleared waivers....He has 4 MORE years @5m in  a flat cap world...not to mention he produces at a 3rd line rate. He should do well on a new team willing to give him more ice time but its a big contract to take on without sending anything back...even for a deadbeat team like Ott
