[Signing] Canucks sign Braden Holtby

Recommended Posts

I guess Marky can get his best term, top dollars and protection from expansion now. Can't blame him. Hopefully we light him up when we play him.

Then why not sign a capable backup and save the cap space? Lol

A capable back up doesn't play 41 games a season.

Even Khudobin got 3.5$M

And that's what we should have been looking at. 1 mill cheaper and for a goalie with much better numbers.

They’ve spread it over the two goalies.

Its not a bad strategy.

I know the point you’re making, but think you could view it more as an insurance policy, even though we now have two great goalies with some injury history between them.

The Canucks could easily slap the C on this guy too.

They paid a bit extra for his character, which can be an expensive thing.

How can he be better than Markstrom? Marky was the only goalie in the league to not allow an unscreened shot from a non-scoring distance. Do you know how rare that is? Lol

I don't think Holtby was signed because he is "better" than Markstrom, he was signed because he is still a pretty good goalie, at a fairly good cap hit, and for a short term. The extra cap can be put forward to (possibly) re-sign Tanev or Toffoli, or perhaps other UFAs.

Also, without the NMC which Markstrom was asking, the team has a lot more flexibility on who to protect in the expansion draft.

4 team no trade NTC. So he can be traded to 27 teams and be exposed.

Great signing. Next is barrie.

It's unfortunate we can't sign Wayne Simmonds too for the trifecta.

Bad last year, and not great overall the past 3 seasons overall.

Let's hope Clark knows what he's doing.

They paid a bit more for him to go to Seattle in two years, if they did a three year term it would have been cheaper.

Yeah that's easy. Rumors were saying originally it was an nmc.

The NTC is essentially redundant. If 'were looking to trade him, it means he's not performing and no other team is going to want him or a 4.3M cap dump unless we offer something really nice with it.

He's been better during the playoffs in each of the last 3 seasons than in the regular year, including his cup run.

We'll see what Clarke's magic does to him.
