It is beginning to look like the Canucks may have to buyout Holtby.  LOL

Jim can't seem to turn anything into an asset!

he's got some minor ones over the years. Benn's 6th, Dahlen, Goldy e.g. But not anything too exciting.

As far as Holtby goes, there's rumoured interest some of which makes sense. We don't have to rush to buy him out, we can do that later this summer.

We can also still pick up a guy like Brossiot for 1.5 mil and bury him if need be if we end up keeping Holtby somehow.

There really isn't any immediate pressure to buy him out.

He got us a 2nd round pick each for a broken down (bad groin) Garrison and a likeable but clearly has seen better days Bieksa. Both guys had NTCs I believe as well  (granted those were awhile ago).

from Frank Seravalli:

"The backup space is equally crowded. Calgary, Nashville, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, and Washington are all in the mix. The Canucks will be if they move on from Braden Holtby, which is likely to happen by buyout if no trade materializes. Will Mikko Koskinen still be in Edmonton? Both the Flyers and Devils are looking for established veterans to pair up with Carter Hart and Mackenzie Blackwood. Jaroslav Halak is the in-demand backup with the most interest, followed by Bernier, then Antti Raanta and David Rittich."

some teams currently looking to add a back - up goalie but on the other side there are several back up goalies available. Canucks most likely have to wait until some dominos fall, like CAR re-signing Bernier. If ARZ trade away Darcy Kuemper i would guess that Coyotes show serious interest in Holtby.

Don't see why Arizona would want Holtby at his 5.7M salary.  They could have included him in the trade if that was the case.  They knew early that there's plenty of interest in Kuemper.

The Vancouver Canucks have been trying to move Braden Holtby, but nothing has happened yet. According to Frank Seravalli, he is now a player who may be bought out shortly.

interesting how hockey insiders from Philadelphia look at the Braden Holtby situation:

https://phillyhockeynow.com/2021/07/27/philadelphia-flyers-report-trade-rumors-news-braden-holtby-backup-goalie-carter-hart-sports-psychologist/

- "Vancouver Canucks are having a “ton of trouble” moving him due to his contract"

- "Vancouver would have to retain at least half of his salary (bringing the cap hit down to $2.15 million) to make a trade reasonable.

This writer is not very accurate when it comes to salary because Holtby's salary is 5.7 M and cap hit is 4.3 M for 2021/2022.

So if we retain 1/2 his salary, the cap hit halves, to $2.15 M.  As the writer says.  What's inaccurate about that?

The buyout window has now closed.  Second one opens only if an RFA takes Canucks to arbitration

And per Friedman, we had a trade with Winnipeg (or mb Ottawa, I forget) for Schmidt,  but he nixed it

I don't begrudge guys using their NTCs. They earned them.
