As much as it hurts from a sentimental perspective, having both Tanev and Myers locked in for another four years on the wrong side of 30 doesn't leave a ton of flexibility to improve the RHD position long-term. This also makes it slightly easier to bring back Stecher if they want. The D with Stecher, struggled when pressured in the playoffs - past unless it is for a similar deal as Motte.. Losing out on OEL really screwed us. BS. In this day and age you really have to watch your dollars. As much I appreciate both Tanev and Marky, it's probably best to move on. Regarding OEL, I believe it's best we didn't make that deal. 8

Now we're watching key members of this team walk away for nothing. We sat through a 7 year rebuild for what? To watch the contributing members of this team walk so the plugs with their fat contracts stay? Our D was a problem in the playoffs, now look at it. Its completely dismantled. Signing a guy like Barrie over Tanev makes us worse. It's the price we're paying with those anchor contracts of LE, Sutter, Beagle, Ferland, Roussel, etc.. 1

Where are jimbo's backers tonight??? I'm right here... The sky isn't falling. Just take a deep breath. Lots of long term mistakes today. Van made there's and are almost out from under them. This is a good thing overall. There's still some good value players available that are younger. This is a blessing in disguise. Going to miss you Tanman!!!!

As of now we are not better than we were last year. Debatable. Tanev, while a very shrewd and intelligent defenseman, was injury prone and spent half of every season as such. He had zero physicality and offered very little in the way of offense. Markstrom was exceptional, at times, and was a sieve at other times. He could be easily gotten off his game. While both players were great Canucks, they are far from irreplaceable. They’re gone. Forget about them. 5 4 1 1
Popular Post Jester13
If people want to blame anyone, blame Tanev for signing the contract. He got offered more money and term, so I, for one, won't blame him. And for those blaming Benning for contracts and not being able to sign 6x6 or 4.5x4, well, blame Hughes and Petey for speeding up JBs rebuild timeline, something no one saw coming. Don't fret, Benning still has lots of time to make moves. 11 1

Take a look at who we have signed on Defence and take a look at who's available on the market right now that we could realistically sign. We got significantly worse. 7 years we sat through a rebuild, finally saw some success, and now we just lost 2 heart and soul guys for nothing. 3 if you count stecher. 1
Johnny Torts
Sick and tired of Tanev not laying the body anyways. &^@#ing guy plays goalie only to screen. Blocks a bunch yeah, screens a bunch 2. gooduck and all the best. 1
SergioMomesso
IMO I thought Hughes was the reason Tanev played an un injured season. He took a lot less hits when he was retrieving dump ins because Quinn was always where he was supposed to be and transitioned up ice without getting hemmed in.
Coconuts
As much as it hurts, perhaps this is best long term. You can't rebuild your D by bringing everyone back. Tanev out, Stecher out. Right now we're looking at Benn, Edler, Hughes, and Myers. What do we add to that mix? You gotta figure Juolevi makes it on the left side and switches in and out with Benn. But what are we doing on our right side because right now it's just Myers? Getting Petro and somehow shipping out cap would be huge although perhaps unrealistic, but that still leaves one right spot open?
RWMc1
There's still a few RHD UFAs out there. Now I'm curious as to who we pick up!
-AJ-
I'll be honest, I see this as a big win for Calgary. I feel like we should have been able to offer at least that. Benning and Co. look to have messed up here IMO. Really hoping Benning proves me wrong for the upteenth time, but I don't like this at all. 1

DeNiro
So the good news is Signer Jim was able to contain himself today. Now we need Trader Jim to get creative and take advantage of some teams cap dumps like the Miller trade. 1
Darius
I know this team had to upgrade the d. my concern is where they gonna get the upgrade from. tanev provided little to no offence and that’s a hindrance for a guy that logged so many minutes. Ilya Mikheyev
Shocked 4 @ 4.5 is all it took to play for a worse team in a worse city Really really hope Benning has some plan to revamp the D

Our defense is the same as last year so we will be no better. Either way FIRE BENNING!!!
