Blackhawks core veterans “have had enough”

If not for COVID, they wouldn’t have even come close to a playoff spot.

And bearing Edmonton isn’t proof of anything. They were never really even in it when they had to face a real team.

I'm more than happy to watch them sink into mediocrity

If they'd all taken a bit less their window would probably have lasted longer

If they took 8M apiece and they would have been able to retain scoring depth and a solid D and G.  And be perineal Stanly Cup contenders.

Just the natural cycle of the league. That being said, 3 Stanley Cup wins in 5 years is nothing to sneeze at.

You can argue Toews is overpaid by 2-3M, but Kane is fair value. Keith took a huge discount.

Seabrook's deal is the main killer, and a couple of brutal trades have set the franchise back. Winning a playoff round this year gave us a much higher pick too.

But the results of the previous decade were impressive, arguably the most dominate team.

All good things come to an end and well maybe when the "core" four aren't making a combined 33M you can keep it going. Was dominant when they were winning but the last couple of years they haven't had that 2nd level of talent being able to stay long term.

The core is aging.

The GM failed to hold on and develop the supporting players and the gradual replacements.

That’s what happens when you take 30% of the cap like T&K did.

They took money over winning more, everyone knew that, I am not sure why are they realizing that right now.

If only they could be flipped to the Leafs a couple years down the road for M&M lol...

(you can tell how much I love the Center of the Hockey Universe )

Chicago has been stuck in a rut for the last several years and is Toews being delusional and think they are actually remotely competitive?

Pretty ridicious Toews is complaining about this. The reason they are in this position is because management was loyal to the core player and signed them to huge money long term contract... Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook and whoever else I am not familiar with. So management already commited to being loyal and signed you guys to ridicious contracts, it doesn't work out, and now you are complaining because changes are coming?

How about play better and get results, Blackhawks has underperformed for the past 5 years. And the hard truth is Toews is not even considered an elite player around the league. This guy needs a reality check.

Damn, Kane looks like a 15 year old boy in that one haha

Yeah, Keith's deal was a bargain and Toews got too much money IMO, but hard to argue with the Stanley Cups.

That's why I don't believe in paying Elias and Quinn anything close to 10 million/year until they either become top 5 at their position or win a Stanley Cup.

TBH, Keith’s contract was pretty good, paying Seabrook all that money is on SB but Kane and Toews hamstrung the team.

We all knew that team was done being competitive based on cap and math.

Taking 8-8.5m would have gone a long way to keep guys like Sharp, Teuvo, Saad, Bickell etc. after that last extension.

Uhh because he's the captain, who acts as a liason between players and coaching/management?

Normally players are informed when a rebuild starts.

In house, sure. Publicly though?
