Detroit needs forwards and goalies they have a lot of picks later on for defenseman. Id be very surprised if stevie doesnt draft Eklund  or johnson

Oy. My man. You're old enough to remember the Bertuzzi incident but you still think NHL teams make decisions at the draft based on positional need? How does that happen? You've been watching hockey for a while but never paid much attention to the draft?

Lots of talk that Clarke is a Klingberg clone and I personally don’t see a need for that on our team. If he’s there at 9 take him due to the RHD aspect of it, but I personally think we need to go big and mean with our right side since our whole left side in the future consists of PMD in Hughes, Rathbone, Juolevi.
Id go for high end talent to play on the top line like a Johnson or Guenther, of course Eklund is a pipe dream but those three guys I’d target on draft day. No way Pearson should be in our top 6 and Piggy is still a bit of a question mark (I think he will be awesome) but you never know.

You should stop listening to them talk. For starters, there's no such thing as "clones". Every player is unique. Most comparisons are close to useless, and even the good ones only give you a rough semblance that is only useful for getting a first impression. I wouldn't say Clarke is "big and mean", but he has a real physical element to his game. We didn't get to see it much in Slovakia this year, as he is still pretty slim and a little physically overwhelmed against adult pro athletes, and I didn't see much of it at U18s either, not exactly sure why, but last year in junior he was a pretty significant physical presence. I've definitely seen more big hits thrown by him than from any of the other top defensemen in this class.

Some players I think could go higher than #9:

Power

Beniers

Eklund

Wallstedt

Hughes

Clarke

McTavish

Guenther

Just have this feeling we're getting Lysell

I go Edvinsson there then

Me too, or at the least a C. The Canucks need Cs and Ds, but Lysell seems to be a Benning type pick. Smaller player with tons of skill and speed.

my hope is, actually:

1. Lucius (Canucks need a good C, with decent size, more than anything)

2. Sillinger

3. Edvinsson  (I have a feeling he'll be more like Myers and less like Hedman)

4. Lambos (injury dropped him, but he's good)

Lysell and Johnson may be super skilled, but I would prefer the Canucks target tougher players with skill/speed. All about playoffs, eventually.

Ya I have no interest in Johnson. I hope we steer clear.

That is my worry, at least Myers 2.0 won't cost 6m a year at the start and maybe Shaw if given more D responsibilities can get more out of him and clean up some areas he needs to improve on.

Interesting D (stylistic) comparables I've read:

Power - Hedman

Hughes - Barrie

Clarke - E. Karlsson

Edvinsson - OEL

Lambos - Pietrangelo

Cuelemans - Makar

Hmm, Hughes a little over-hyped?

Sounds like these guys are all over-hyped.

I don’t want to derail this thread but I’m realizing that Myers is criminally underrated by our own fans.

There’s moments where he looks like a stud and particular shifts where he can absolutely take over but they don’t happen nearly enough, more often then not he is making mistakes and losing offensive players in the Dzone. He’s a frustrating player to watch because you know he has the ability to take a game over yet it rarely happens

Hard no for Hughes in that case.  Lambos gets more and more intriguing the more I see.

Hahaha don't be fooled by these shoddy comparisons.... someone farted these in their sleep (other than the Power and Clarke ones, which we've seen numerous times). Luke can actually play defence.

Yeah, I think that Lambos kid is pretty slick, pretty good skater, creative, and plays with some snarl.

All the other D get really favorable comparisons, seems legit to me.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops. JB says he sees 9 guys at the top and everyone assumes it’s the same 9 that most list but nothing says he doesn’t have 1 or 2 other guys on his list.  It’ll get loud on here if one of the favourites drops to us and he goes off the board and selects Lambos or someone else. This could be one of the more interesting drafts to watch in a long time.

He must have been a beast in the playoffs, the way the zebras were calling everything and anything to get him off the ice. Until the Canucks find a better RHD, he's staying.
