I don't think the Kings would pick McTavish. They're already very beefy up the middle. I think they go with a skill guy that projects as a wing.

So you think they take Guenther?

Barrie isn't even good enough to be a number one in the AHL.  Hard no to defensemen who can't play defense.

Yeah. Me too. We don't need anymore offensive dman, imo. We need more grit, toughness and stay at home defense.

The backend needs to be a little more evened out. Look at Colorado, they had all that firepower, but couldn't even get passed Vegas.

Don’t they have Petruzelli?

Yeah, but is there any guarantee that he'll eventually be a starter after making the show? I don't know if Detroit would be wise to put all their eggs in one basket with Petruzelli. I'm pretty sure Stevie Y was hoping that Demko would be available after the bubble playoffs. If that's true, then that says something...

I think there's going to be a lot of people complaining no matter what given how much variation there is in rankings.  I'll trust Benning's judgement over CDC's.

Well yeah, Benning's the professional. We're just playing and spitballing here on these boards.

I really hope that Detroit goes for Wallstedt! Hell I’d be okay with throwing in our 2nd rounder to move up to 6th if JB likes someone there.

Wouldn't matter if that's the order. It would just be merry go around.

Detroit picks Wallstedt, SJ picks Eklund, LA probably then picks McTavish. We probably still land Geunther.

The Kings are stacked up the middle and could use more scoring wingers over a C. Byfield, Turcotte, Kupari, Vilardi, Anderson Dolan and Thomas up the middle. They’d probably prefer Guenther or Johnson over McTavish

Why does everyone seem to think you need to be big and tough to be good in the playoffs? Can we please look at the top 20 playoff scorers in the last 5 years and tell me where all the big tough guys are?

2021: Landeskog?

2020: Jamie Benn

2019: Not sure there is one?

2018: Ovie, Wheeler

2017: Malkin, Getzlaf, Draisaitl

2016: Thornton, Malkin, Backes

Yes, it helps playing a tough, strong game, and size isn't usually frowned upon in the playoffs. But the last 5+ years top 20 is dominated by average sized skill players that know how to show up when its needed. We can't just say these young guys with size will perform in big games over the smaller guys. Thornton is essentially built for the playoffs, and everyone dogs him cause he doesn't have a lot of success. Anyone taking him over 5'11 Kucherov or 5'8 Point?

I honestly see the chips falling in our favour at the end of the day and McTavish being available to us at 9. I see the Blue Jackets as the only potential threat there, but I don't see how they pass on a D man like Edvinsson or Clarke. Heck, if Beniers falls to 5 that's probably who they take if they decide to go C...

VAN got super lucky with Quinn - the best Hughes brother IMO. Jack is okay, but not as good. Luke will be okay too, but again...not as good as Quinn.

Let some other team take Luke, I'm all good with that. Pass on the slight skilled guys too (Johnson, Lysell)

Go with the C with good size and skill:

McTavish

Lucius

Sillinger

The difference in prospects from 6-9 this year seems fairly minimal where as that 2nd rounder could net us another top prospect in our system. We need ELCs to come in and help us over the next few years. We need to make as many picks as possible, the draft is Bennings wheelhouse so if anything you add ammunition don’t deplete it

Sometimes a team gets kind of locked in to a particular guy, and then another guy (who is expected to be picked early) falls several spots.  Definitely Buffalo takes Power.  But after that teams could easily be locked into their guy, and someone like Clark or McTavish could fall.

Would be awesome to hit another home run in round two like with Hogs.

Yeah, and if there are 9 guys that Benning likes I don't see why he'd do such a deal.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Jackets take McTavish after losing PLD this year, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see them take Clarke knowing they’re going to lose Seth Jones. They can attempt to replace their C or their RHD. It’ll just depend on who’s higher on their draft board

I hear you there but if someone like Eklund drops to 6 and Benning thinks he’s much much better then someone we can get at 9, then I’d be okay with it.

I hear you on having more bullets and how the top 8-9 prospects seem similar to us fans.
