Yes

I know it was terrible under Gillis, was a different game then.

No, it is/was inexcusable that the 2nd round picks were traded away like candy (similar to how Nonis did it), and unlike Nonis who actually COULD draft some players, Gillis could not. Practically the only thing we got out of Gillis' years was Hutton and Horvat (traded for Schneider - Nonis).

There's so many excuses about Gillis "trying to win", but this is absolutely a smokescreen for this abject failure. Failure to draft and develop has cost this team depth.

I would love to see Corson Ceulemans drop so we can pick him in the second round. He would be a stretch at 9th. If we were selecting based on need he would be it. No he is not a righty.

He has the makings of a great D man.

Not a player I've seen a lot of, and I have him ranked a little lower, but I wouldn't be at all disappointed if Canucks took him at 9. Some question marks with his play off the puck, where he can tend to float and wait for the puck to come to him. It could be a matter of consistency of effort, but also he plays on an all-star team full-time, so maybe a part of it is just him trusting his teammates to make plays and get him the puck

Big time upside. Offensive hockey sense and playmaking ability seem really high, both with the puck, where he has global vision and awareness, and off the puck where he's great at getting lost in coverage. Not the fastest or most powerful skater but his skating agility and quickness are great for evading defenders to slip into open areas around the net. Reminds me a little bit of Brayden Point, where he can make plays in tight spaces in the middle of the ice and set up give and goes, and has the shot to finish them off in the slot. Could be a specialist in the bumper position on an NHL powerplay.

Hype and reality don’t always meet.

Im sure he’ll be a good player but we’ve seen lots of hype from prospects performing early on fizzle out.

I don't doubt he'll be a consistent 20-30 scorer for many years... Just skeptical of his defensive game.  May always need to be sheltered.  He won't be a Marchant... Which is both good (not a rat) and bad (not as much of a complete player).

The chemistry the Habs are exhibiting these playoffs is something special for sure.  I'm happy for them... And a little jelly lol!  Reminds me a bit of canucks 94' run.

Jim always seems to do well with later picks - wouldn't mind getting an extra 2nd rd pick as there are some possible gems there

Brayden Point seems to be doing OK with Tampa and, wait for it, he was a 3rd. round pick in 2014 (79th. overall).  Perhaps Benning and his scouting crew will conjure up someone like that in round 2 or 3.

Yeah not often a 3rd rounder turns out to be a top 5 player in the league but yeah that sure would be nice!!!

Solid pass. Edvinsson screams Virtanen of defense to me. Almost like Broberg but less aware

I was thinking...

What about 6th OA for 9th OA and Virtanen (former 6th OA)?

Detroit has a knack for reclaiming our power forwards like with Bertuzzi.  A man can wish :)

If you only looked at Joel Kirivanta in last year’s playoffs, you would’ve thought very highly of him too.

Id like to see how Cole does next year in the regular season before passing judgment but so far so good!

Caufield is gonna be incredible. I was really hoping the Canucks would get him if he fell on their laps (I don't mind the Podkolzin pick). From what Ive seen from Caufield, that kid knows how to score goals. Its not just finding the open spots on the ice and his release which is top notch, its his ability to GET those shots off. Guys like Boeser need to have the puck in a certain spot, their "wheelhouse" as people would call it when they want to one time it, Caufield's bulleye seems to be fairly large. That guy can just rip it even if the puck isn't placed perfectly. He can just adjust to it whether he contorts his body a certain way, positioning. Ive even seen him change his hand placement on his stick to get leverage on the shot . He honestly reminds me of Brett Hull, where he can take seemingly any shot and turn it to a legit scoring chance

We're less than a month away!

This is going to be one of the most interesting draft days for me.  Can’t wait!
