I've had him in my top 15 since the 5 Nation U17s spring of 2020. I remember being baffled when the first media lists started coming out that summer and nobody had him in their first round. People just weren't paying attention. Usually happens with defensive specialists (see Mukhamadullin or Jake Sanderson last year), as flashy skills are more readily noticeable. Along with Matt Beniers and Cole Sillinger, he's one of the best defensive forwards in the draft. His offensive upside isn't among the best of the class, but I think best case scenario he could be something like a Logan Couture. On the other side of things, I've been sleeping on McTavish since the 2019 U17s. I didn't see much more than a thick, sturdy NHL body. Still not at all sold on his offensive upside, but he brings enough skills, hockey sense, and aggressiveness to crack my top 20, maybe top 15.

If Luke can develop the physical side of his game and throw the odd hit he could be something truly special. I don't think he is comfortable in his large frame quite yet. My concern would be.. what if he never develops the hitting. just my 2 cents tho Still. Two Hughes is better than one.

Is he Craig MacTavish’s son? I wonder if he’ll get fathered in to not have to wear a helmet?

We need a Dman or Center badly. 1

I don’t mind Lysell, but personally I’d only draft C/D as first rounders of it were up to me. Wingers can be effective, but a teams strength has and will always be from the net out and down the middle.
Popular Post Sp3nny
Been catching up on highlights and game footage from my top 3 hopefuls (Clarke, Eklund, Johnson) for the Nucks and really liking what I am seeing. Here is my thoughts on the two forwards: Eklund - his playstyle reminds me of Elias Lindholm. Nothing he does really stands out in an exceptional way, but he does everything above average, especially his speed, IQ/vision, and finish. - I love that his goals seem to come from everywhere on the ice, either beating the goalie with a very accurate/hard snapper, or picking up a rebound in front. - I really like his usage on the PP where from what I can tell, he plays almost a goal line bumper position (similar to how we use Boeser where he bumps the puck to Horvat for the one-timer around the face-off dot, but on the opposite side). This allows him to either attack from down low, or use his vision to make a good pass. - his backchecking is actually quite impressive, and when he gets the chance to turn on the jets through the neutral zone, it almost looks like he catches the D by surprise. Sneaky quick kind of thing. Johnson - his playstyle reminds me of Patrick Kane. I don't know if it's the way he skates and stickhandles or what, but I found myself reminiscing on watching hawks game. - I love the finish of this guy. Not only is he a surpremely talented stickhandler/skater, but he scores goals in a lot of ways. I saw lots of rebounds and deflections in the highlights I watched. This actually surprised me quite a bit, as Eklund seems to go to the dirty areas more, but Johnson just has that knack for knowing when and where to be. - he seems to be a bit more of a rover out there, which somewhat reminds me of Marner in a sense, which has its pros and cons. If he I talented and smart enough to use it well, it will work to his advantage. Overall, I really like both of these guys. I think Clarke has to be the best target, but I won't be at all disappointed with either of these two. I think from a purely offensive upside perspective, Johnson is the guy. But the two way ability of Eklund is extremely attractive as well, and I don't think he is that far behind Johnson. Hopefully we can get one of the three. I almost feel as if getting 1st overall this year would be a curse, in the same sense as winning the lottery in 2017 (Pettersson draft) would have been. Even though you could get any player you want, the pressure will be to pick Power at #1 just from consensus. As much as the package is tantalizing with Power, I think the next few picks could really surprise and become the "Heiskanen", "Makar" and "Pettersson" of this draft. 2
HockeyHarry
Really wasn’t expecting Canucks to be in this position in the standings. I got my wish list happening. Lots of intriguing players. But realistically Canucks not winning the lotto I would also say Lysell is probably the guy we get. I’d be happy. Jimbo loves the motor guys. The D guys will be gone by the time Canucks pick. Would love to get Luke or righty Clarke. Those are my top 2 wish listers.

Unbelievable edges. Practically Antonio Stranges level with the 10-2, but Michkov actually blends it seamlessly into a prodigal all-around game, rather than making it a Globetrotters circus trick. In almost any other draft year I'd say Michkov was a lock for first overall. Anybody think he might pose a serious challenge to Bedard for the top spot? Why couldn't we be bad next season or the one after. Had to be this draft year. I'm only keen on a few prospects and I don't know much about any else. Next season Wright, Savoie, Lambert, Miroshnichenko are very elite.

Looking at this team and who is at the helm there’s a great chance we’re a bad team next season and the one after that. Maybe we finally get our 1st over all pick. #firebenning
Herberts Vasiljevs
If we draft Luke Hughes, are we going to do something drastic? Like... trading Petey for Jack? ALL THREE HUGHES BROTHERS!!!!
Nave
I think we would have to get a higher pick than New Jersey to get Hughes. That being said, if the Devils get Hughes and we get Clarke I'm not complaining.
BPA
If the Canucks lose all their remaining games, they will be 5th from last (taking into consideration of SEA at 3rd). So top 5 pick (7th if other teams leap frog).
