My favorite part was Hughes, Clarke, and Eklund being gone before pick #9

Guess Benning there was nothing good at 9. Just seems like Benning was eyeing Johnson and Sillinger rumour as smokescreen but found Columbus were going to take both so was more open to trading the pick to Arizona.

Yeah i'm pretty happy with the trade - as previously mentioned i wasn't high on Guenther. I think McTavish, Johnson or one of the D could have huuuge upside. Don't see it with him. So allll good with OEL and Garland !

Winners for me today :

Columbus - what a draft ! If those players hit their ceiling they will have rebuilt the core of their team in one draft + adding Boqvist.
Mini  - Bold moves - Trading up for Walstetd ( EDM Whyyyyy ?!)  and getting Lambos at 26 - really bold job of reshaping that franchise this year.
Winnipeg - Lucius gonna fit in like a glove with their other skill players at 18

Boston - Lysell a great pickup for them that far down.

Arizona - Add a key empty net specialist and 3 time faceoff winner via trade.

Even though there might be a couple of gems scattered throughout, this draft doesn't strike me as the deepest.

For example looking at the U18s this year, some of the most impressive players in that tournament were 2022 and even 2023 draft eligible players. Talking about the Canadians, US, Russian and even the Belorussian kid.

Hoglander?

With the Twins retired, and now Beagle and Eriksson traded, is Hoagie going to be our new reigning fitness Stud?  Or will Petey or Bo be contenders for the title?

Add Detroit and Anaheim, Zegras now and now Mactavish wow they draft good or have luck.

Every year our 2nd rounder is a steal, yet don’t remember seeing one of them in the lineup

:picard:

Ok deserved that one, but still, I’ve heard our pick being a steal way more often than that picks actually becoming an NHLer

Up until 8th spot it is decent but after that at 9 which Canucks were unlucky it just seems meh

Columbus knocked it outta the park today with their picks n trades holy smokes

I didn't care for the Johnson pick, right before Edvinsson goes, (particularly when you consider they just dealt their #1D).

Sillinger pick I liked - but I would have taken Lambos over Ceulemans.

Bo, Myers and Hoglander...

I could see Jack Rathbone getting up there one day, seems like he takes fitness seriously.

Yeah, the haul for Seth Jones was unreal.  I mean you're getting a Hedman-lite...  but still to give up two first rounders and Boqvist was crazy.

I'm really pulling for Columbus to turn this around, they have awesome fans and have to deal with players who constantly ask for trades out of there.

I originally thought they'd gotten two 1sts - but wasn't one of them a swap of 1sts in this draft?

I thought that Columbus team was going to be something - but they really shouldn't have gone with such a divisive guy behind their bench imo.

Columbus from observing them over the years they go for guys that play pretty like Dubois, Milano, Johnson, Sillinger. Very predictable they are and most frustrating thing is they pick ahead of Van and pick the players Van are eyeing.

Petey was the one in his rookie camp, though, that was still accelerating on the last leg of the bag skate  - didn't he lap someone?

Yes, yes you're right...  I also didn't mention the other picks thrown in.

Maybe they're trying to tank next two years with their coach?  If I was a Columbus fan, I would want to just get a bunch of reclamation projects, move out players that you respect and not make them suffer, and then tank your way to the bottom 3 picks for two years in a row.  Hate to say it as I'm not a proponent of tanking, but it is what it is.
