Schmidt has been outstanding the past month, and keeps getting better.  Pairing him with Edler has been huge.  Schmidt has been a fantastic addition to this team.

I was doubtful early on but yeah, he is great stick handler and possesses the ideal skillset to help with the transition game.

It's great to see them gel as a pair.  However, given his youth and progression I can't help but wonder how Juolevi would look next season if he was able to take that next step as a minute-muncher and provide the mobility that an older Edler is starting to lose.  Juolevi - Schmidt just might be the big minute, all-situations guys the team probably needs moving forward.

He was a very good player during last year playoffs.  JB stole him for only a 3rd round pick.  The Canucks haven't had a offensive puck moving defenseman for a long time before Quinn Hughes.  In a few years, they will have three of them - Hughes, Schmidt and Rathbone.  WOOOOO

I'm being facetious here, but if only Jett WOO could become one too. It's unlikely though...

He's finding a better level of consistency the last couple weeks.

1 goal, 4 assists, +5 in the last 6 games

Very typical of a move with a player like that. Without being a superstar point getter it takes players time to find a niche on a new team and carve out a role where they are playing the game their way.

Ray Ferraro once said it takes almost a full year for a player to fully adapt to a new team. I try to hold judgment until then.

I was scratching my head on Schultz for the first 15 games but he has steadied up a lot. Practice time has been seriously underestimated in fan evaluation. Add to that the off ice bonding that has been eliminated.

Doesn't explain Eriksson. ;)

Funny enough, by far Eriksson's best season was his 2nd in Vancouver, but he was injured, so it wasn't really noticed. It also still wasn't really that great.

Exactly this. The team has struggled to generate anything significant from the blueline for many, many years. I've stated many times that needed to change for success.

Schmidt just needs to buckle down, settle in, learn the system and play his game. He was indeed showing signs of progress, but still looked scattered and scrambly to me. Made me nervous when he was out there.

I also think his strong personality was a little awkward at the start for the guys. I think one has to ease into Schmitty's boisterousness.

Our need on D isn't scoring and puck moving. It's size, and truly quality shutdown ability. Myers is OK, but is a complimentary guy more than a true defensive workhorse.
