FYI per capfriendly:

Quote

Clubs whom have 1 or more arbitration filings may be permitted to perform a buyout outside of the regular window. This gives teams another opportunity to become cap compliant following an arbitration case.

Clubs are permitted to perform a buyout outside the regular period during the 48 hour period beginning on the third day after the final of [CBA 13(c)ii]:

  1. Settlement of the Club's final arbitration case, or
  2. Receipt of the Club's last arbitration award

As pointed out by mll, the player must make at least a 4M cap hit next year

If you were GM would you buyout any of the following contract?

Sutter: 2.04 next year, 1.166 the year after

Nah.  It's only one more year, and Sutter is a decent player.  Ride it out, maybe trade him at the deadline for a pick.

I agree - been hearing lots of clamouring for a Sutter buyout tho. I personally like Sutts, think it's good to honour contracts, he will be playing in a contract year, can play W or C, and turns it up slightly in the playoffs.

It's not as simple as a GM buying out a contract and that's it. Ownership has to approve to pay someone for not being there. Just think for a second every time you go ask your boss to spend $3 for a box of pens and the friction you get for that. Now pretend you are a GM and go ask the owner to pay someone 1, 2, 3M or more to go away....see how well that conversation goes.

I voted yes. Not because I believe Sutter is that bad, but due to our whole cap situation right now with COVID, I think there are some really good deals out there where we could probably replace him for much cheaper.

I'd try and trade him first, but every GM has a Sutter right now that they are struggling to trade.

I hate buyouts that count against the cap so a big no thx.   Unless it helped us do something very vital - which is NOT signing Hoffman or Dandanov nope.

Like it or not, Sutter is an important player on the Canucks

His value to us doesn’t equal a buyout.  We are better off keeping him then prolonging the pain.  AG isn’t ready and needs the sheltering.   Might as well just play him.

Only Sutter can be bought out in this window.  There is a minimum AAV - it's 4M this year.

The Canucks have 7 players who can be bought out during this window. Although the only ones who aren't vital to our future are Sutter, Eriksson, Myers, and Edler.

The other three are Horvat, Boeser, and Miller

The post got adjusted - it was a multi-choice and only Sutter had an AAV above 4M.
