The Fredericton, NB native also made five playoff appearances with St. Louis in 2020, registering a 2-1-1 record with a 1.89 GAA and a .935 save percentage. Allen has played 289 NHL career games, all with St. Louis. Drafted in 2008 by the Blues (2nd round, 34th overall), the 6'2", 203 lbs netminder has a career 148-94-26 record, 2.50 GAA and a .915 save percentage. Allen was acquired from St. Louis on September 2, 2020. https://www.nhl.com/canadiens/news/canadiens-sign-jake-allen-to-a-two-year-contract-extension/c-319454186
Kobayashi Maru
A lot of money tied up in goaltenders, however they don't really have to worry much about that position for two years. Elite starter and 1A/B type backup is a good setup for them.

Coconuts
That's not bad at all, he's a capable backup. The money tied up in goaltending just looks worse because of Price's cap hit.

They’re only $300k over the cap with a full roster signed Vancouver however DOES need to make a trade. They’re $2m below the cap ceiling but still need to sign Virtanen and Guadette. Plus they only have 6 D signed. Edited October 14, 2020 by qwijibo

The other $2 million is enough to add Rafferty and someone like Leivo to complete the roster. I'm sure Benning is waiting on the arbitration hearing with Virtanen to see what he gets before he makes another move. That contract will determine if he can add other players or even perhaps trade Virtanen to get another Dman and forward.

Counting on him going on LTIR is a risky strategy. I doubt they let Virtanen get to arbitration. Too many factors they don’t control. I’d wager they get a deal done prior to his hearing Edited October 14, 2020 by qwijibo

I’d wager they get a deal done prior to his hearing With Virtanen that could be true. Get him signed to a long term deal at a better cap hit would be the preference. Haven't heard much on Ferland. If he wants to play he needs to get cleared by the Canuck doctors. So if that is pushed to the end of the year then most likely we don't see any more moves by Benning until that is sorted out as that $3.5 million needs to be allocated for if Ferland is on the roster.
