Should be a competitive and entertaining division.

I wonder what the alignment will look like?

Canada:  Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal.

West:  San Jose, LA, Anaheim, Arizona, Vegas, Colorado, St. Louis, Chicago

East:  NYR, NJ, NYI, Boston, Columbus, Buffalo, Detroit, Pittsburgh
South:  Tampa, Florida, Washington, Carolina, Nashville, Dallas, Washington, Philadelphia

They won’t split Phili and Pits up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dallas pushed into the west coast grouping and move Chicago across.

so Boston and buffalo essentially drop into the metropolitan division,

metro: NYI, NYR, NJD, PHI,WAS, PITS, BOS, BUF,

atlantic: CAR, CBJ, DET, TBL, FLO, NAS, STL, CHI

west: SJS, LAK,ANA, VGK, PHO,COL,DAL, MIN

thats what I think might happen, but who knows

Personally I want the NHL to die an ugly death.  Good riddance.  I still love hockey but I can't stand what the NHL has become.  I mean really "game management" - what the heck is that?  (I mean that literally - what is that?)  The NHL is slowly and steadily turning pro hockey into pro wrestling right before our eyes (boiling frogs anyone?).  Let the NHL die and then we can start a Canadian pro hockey league and have a Canada division all the time (for people who actually like hockey and don't need to constantly reinvent it in order to attract lukewarm fans).  The Americans can do their own thing with hockey and maybe we can play games between our champions (assuming they don't change the rules too much - look what happened to rugby, they turned that into American Football through the same process).  Look at football (i.e. soccer), countries who like the sport (which is most of them) tend to have their own leagues and then their champions play.  Seems to work.  Why do we need Americans to pollute our favourite game?  We Canadians don't need Americans to enjoy hockey, especially when their overweening profit-mongering is destroying the game.  Yes, there is always a business side to professional sports, but there is also a hockey side to it that some of us still care about (but the majority of big fat American owners DON'T).  I think that the NHL will actually survive but I don't want it to.  Go Canucks Go!

Music to my ears. I'd like to give this post a +1,000 !!!

Back in the 90's, wish there were more such voices. We were lured into this VenusF***ing-bug trap, by the false promise of the yanks' leading technology, big money & TV networks.

In broad daylight, they've stolen the Cdn cultural pastime, that once united the country, coast to coast. Was so much better in the 70's & 80's, when a Champion could come from either side of the border.

The unfortunate part, as slim a chance as it is, it means no possibility at all of an all Canadian final. On the flipside it increases the odds of a Canadian team making the final.

Edmonton and Calgary have gotten better, would be nice to keep praying on San Jose, LA and Anaheim instead of the Canadian teams who are all pretty decent now.

How so? They still have the same defense and goaltending as last year.

Barrie is an improvement for them - and Bouchard is still a highly touted RHD... so there is hope at least for Edmontonians.

Can't imagine how much complaining about the refs there would be.

I love the idea of a Canadian division going forward, outside of COVID.  I guess we need one more team to round it out to eight.  Hey, if Ontario and Alberta, (and once Quebec) can support two teams, surely BC can. A team in Victoria, or the Okanagan?

Travel could be managed by longer, and fewer trips across country.

Canadians would at least be guaranteed a team in the final four every year.  And it would be fun to create a stronger rivalry with other Canadian teams.

How has Calgary gotten better?  Edmonton maybe slightly.
Calgary lost 2 top 4 D and only got Tanev in return.  Marky is a slight upgrade in net but it’s not like their goaltending was terrible last year.  Their fans and press liked to blame the losses on goaltending but often they were hung out to dry. Gio is another year older and was showing decline last season. Tanev will not fill the minutes lost from Brodie and Hamonic and Gio already plays more than he should. Most of their forwards are still the same.
At the most optimistic Calgary has stayed the same.  They should be starting to look at a rebuild.
