JM_
no. He only has a 10 team no trade list. He only had a NMC for year 1 of his deal. Edited October 16, 2020 by Robert Long
Nucker 67
Why wouldn't the Canucks protect him? He makes $6, and for a top 4 Dman, that's pretty standard these days. It might even be a good deal in 2-3 years. He has size, skates well for a big man, right shot, good team mate. 1 1 1
Monty
No, but it doesn't matter. Seattle wouldn't take him even if he ends up being exposed. 1
Popular Post Johnny Torts
Myers is not even the beginning of a cap problem here. Good value for a good big body RD that knows how to play and has the IQ to get his stick and body in the right areas to prevent plays. Physical presence in the playoffs.

Rabbit
Depends, if there are too many players need to be protected, he will not be protected. If there are not too many players need to be protected, he will be protected. It is too early to discuss at this moment.
-AJ-
He doesn't need to be, as only a NMC requires that. I think it would be foolish to protect him, as I doubt Seattle wants that contract. 2

BCNate
I like what Myers brings to our D, although he's probably paid a million too much. As we rebuild our D over the next couple of years, I feel he will become increasingly valuable to this team. He doesn't need to be protected, but I'd protect him for sure. On a date just before the regular 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the yet-to-be-named-32nd-NHL franchise from Seattle will carry out its very own NHL expansion draft June 30 is when contracts officially end, hence the July 1 FA period starts. Even with the altered dates Seattle expansion should be one week before the entry draft, similar to the Vegas expansion. The article does mention the Boeser contract which will tie the team in cap knots again. The rule of thumb is a qualifying offer is a minimum 5% raise over the last year of his salary which is 7.5 million, so his next deal will start with 7.85 million per year. With the flat cap 8 million a year becomes huge money. Edited October 16, 2020 by Lazurus

Master Mind
No need to protect Myers. Cap space is at a premium, very unlikely Seattle would want to spend 6m on any player that isn't a solid top six forward or top pair D.

The Canucks have no one that needs expansion protection. From the CBA, each contract year ends on June 30, Ferlands clause does not start until after the 2021 - 2022 season starts, those are the rules otherwise it would listed in the year it occurs What is an unrestricted free agent (UFA)? A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. Any player who meets the following requirements becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA): Is 27 years of age on June 30 of the contract expiry year Has seven (7) Accrued Seasons where an Accrued Season is earned when the player was on the clubs active roster for 40 Regular Season games (30 if the player is a goaltender). Games missed due to a hockey related injury will count towards an accrued season in the season of the injury, plus one additional season after the injury. Meets the requirements for Group 6 UFA Status (See below) An unrestricted free agent is eligible to sign a contract with any club as of noon ET on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract The Seattle expansion is before the entry draft before contracts expire and players become free agents. Reason is his contract is up at the end of the season and if Seattle picks up he can just sign with the Canucks in 2 weeks time when he becomes a UFA. Edler should understand that if he waives, we can protect another young player and he can just relax knowing that the Canucks can sign him basically in the off season if he wish to keep on playing. I don't think Seattle will pick a pending UFA with an expiring contract anyways.

Here's CapFriendly's expansion tool. You'll notice that no player in Vancouver has an NMC because that clause will have expired for the start of 2021/22 which is the status that matters. https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft/seattle Edited October 16, 2020 by mll 2
