grandmaster
https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2039509 Marc-Andre Fleury appears to have no issue with taking a bit of a back seat for the Golden Knights following the addition of Robin Lehner. "Yes, I'm ready to share (the net). This year, I expect it will be a strange season. There will probably be several games in a few days, there will be a condensed schedule," Fleury told Le Journal de Montreal's Jean-Francois Chaumont, as translated by theScore. "I think not all teams will have the choice to use their two goaltenders. For this season, it'll be a good thing to count on two competitive goalies. It'll give our team a good chance." Vegas recently inked Lehner to a five-year, $25-million contract despite having Fleury signed for two more years at a cap hit of $7 million a season. The 35-year-old Fleury has been the face of the Vegas franchise since being picked from the Pittsburgh Penguins in the expansion draft. He appeared in 156 games over the past three seasons and helped guide Vegas to the Stanley Cup Final in its inaugural season. During the 2019-20 campaign, Fleury appeared to show signs of fatigue and decline, posting his worst save percentage (.905) since 2009-10. When asked if he's more motivated to reclaim his No. 1 spot in the crease by the changing of the guard, Fleury indicated he's accepted the team's decision. "Yes and no," Fleury said. "I want to play for me. I want to have fun. I don't have many years left in front of me. I know that Lehner is their goalie. I'm more likely to fill holes. They've placed their trust in Lehner. I don't think I can regain my No. 1 spot, but I'm still going to try to fight back for it. ... "We play for the same team and we are looking to do our jobs. He wants to play and so do I. We have the same mentality. But there are no bad looks between us. He's a good guy." After the Golden Knights acquired Lehner at last season's trade deadline, Lehner went on to start 16 games during the postseason, while Fleury only appeared in four.

EternalCanuckFan
As long as Flower keeps a good attitude, I think this could work out fine for Vegas. The drama triggered by Flower's agent did not help but it seems management is content to keep him unless they can find a taker for him. I can't see any current team willing to take on Flower's full contract and give him the #1 role at this point in his career. Who knows, maybe Flower will get to play for Seattle as I suspect teams are doing a better of job of protecting their goalies this time round which would presumably mean that he would be the goalie left exposed

khay
I said don't nobody help VGK! in some other thread. 5 minutes later: JB trades for Nate Schmidt. I'm sure some team is going to benefit from this cap crunch.

A 3rd round pick wasn’t much to give up, especially when we desperately needed a top 4 defenceman.

Someone was gonna “help them out” might as well be us that benefit. As good as Vegas looks they still need to trade a forward to get under the cap and fill out their roster. The question will be does the addition of Pietrangelo make them better than having Schmidt plus someone like Tuch? For a team that failed to score when it mattered, weakening their forward group might not be the answer.
JeremyCuddles
I'd take a reduced role too if I were making what he is making. Already got his name on the Cup. Making bank in Vegas of all cities too? Psh. What a hero this guy is.

The most important thing is we filled an important hole and all Vegas got for trading an important player was a 3rd round pick. Just like Schmidt was a bargain deal too good to pass up, I'm sure someone is going to step up and take a good player off of Vegas at a bargain price whether it's MAF or someone else. That's all that I'm saying.
danaimo
MAF must be on the radar for CHI and COL. He would be an instant upgrade for either team. But salary would have to go back in either case. I get that teams want to have 2 goalies to share the workload in a condensed season, but VGK have painted themselves into a corner and MAF's contract is probably the easiest to move. The problem is most teams are asking for a king's ransom. In doing so, they miss out on players like Schmidt for a bargain because they're trying so hard to "bend them over a barrel". Teams wouldn't even take a solid player like Tyler Johnson for free. So I disagree that MAF is an easy contract for them to move considering it was well known early on that they were trying to move him for cap reasons. Also doesn't help that they screwed so many teams over during expansion that not many teams are looking to do them any favours.
189lb enforcers?
He’s a solid guy. His trophy cabinet probably has more hardware in it than 99% of all NHLers, ever. Edited October 25, 2020 by 189lb enforcers?
