[Signing] Penguins sign Cody Ceci

I think this will be a good signing for them.  Ceci struggled under the weight of being a top 4 at 4mil or so.  He will probably be one of the best 1.25 mil defensemen in the league and can just relax and play hockey.

Ceci is still an NHL defenseman, and a capable one at that. Far from the worst in the league, just had a lot of pressure from being a first round pick. A reliable bottom pairing defenseman that can play effectively at 13 minutes a night.

I'd take him for 1M as a 6th defenceman. He's nowhere near good enough for top 4 minutes but this is his role now - big tough bottom pairing defenceman who can play 2nd pairing PK minutes.

Keep in mind we have been paying Benn almost twice that to be a 7th D before you start throwing stones.

Ceci is a legit NHL defender, he just isn’t a top 4 guy right now.

Wow!, there are some great bargains happening in the League right now.

A lot of owners are feeling the crunch of lost revenue for their teams and probably more so on their other businesses hit by the pandemic!

Could easily see this as a better deal than what the Rangers will pay Jack Johnson.

Cody's not top 4 as mentioned but should be solid depth.  Was hoping we'd get him for league min or $1 million.

And Benn was also signed from a much weaker UFA class, when it came to the defencemen actually available in 2019.

Yeah, the two situations are not very comparable.

With the Capitals signing Schultz, Van Reimsdyk, LaDue, Dillon....

They have Carlson, Orlov, Schultz, Dillon, Kempny, Jensen, VanReimdyk....

Only 11 forwards.....and no cap space....

Seigenthaler might be a potential take under the circumstances....

Thank goodness. Another tempting candy taken from Jim's twitchy fingers.  Hang tough, JB ...have faith in Juolevi and Rafferty

You can’t compare contracts signed before the Covid induced flat cap to ones signed this offseason.

Good pickup by the Pens.  It seems that Rutherford is one of a few GMs that has correctly interpreted the market for players and the need allocate cap space wisely.  Well done sir.

Nice to see the love Ceci is getting here. Seemed like there wasn't much attention to him before aside from him being very poor offensively.

Too bad we couldn't get him on this deal.
