grandmaster
https://www.thescore.com/wjhc/news/2045552 Hockey Canada has announced invitations for 46 players to attend selection camp for the 2021 world juniors in Edmonton. 2020 No. 2 overall pick Quinton Byfield, prized Colorado Avalanche prospect Bowen Byram, and presumptive 2022 No. 1 pick Shane Wright were among the invitees. The training camp will start Nov. 16 in Red Deer, Alberta, and end Dec. 13. The selection process will occur while the CHL and its umbrella leagues remain in flux regarding a safe return to play following the pandemic-induced pause. The QMJHL is back in action for the 2020-21 campaign, but the WHL and OHL aren't slated to return until Jan. 8 and Feb. 4, respectively. Canada won its 18th gold medal at the last world juniors, the most of any country. King Heffy
Tons of talent this year. Disappointed none of the goalies in the QMJHL earned an invite given we seem to be picking whichever goalie goes on a hot streak to begin the season now. Squamfan
this has the potential to 2005 all over again. Kirby dack was just loaned

Kirby dack was just loaned If Lafrenière was back maybe you could make a case but that comparison have been made many times (pre-tournament) since 2005 and often was a major flop. Not saying this team will flop, actually the opposite, I think it will be a very strong/complete team. And for the first time in many years there will be a lot of returning players, which should make them the heavy favorite again, but I don't an see an obvious offensive game breaking forward on this group. Lots of very good offensive players, but no Crosby, McDavid or Lafreniere.

I'm more interested in our prospects doing well and having success in high pressure tournaments. I know the impact of the world juniors on gauging players and their development is overblown, but it's still nice to see one's prospects win. But yeah, if we win I won't be disappointed in the least. We don't have as much coming up as we have already on the team - or prospects that are of an age that they are out of junior. I feel good about where we are. But it is a bit strange to realize that this much time has passed in the Benning era already and we are now moving into a phase where we are who we are.. And that's not to say that we are bare of prospects - as we have guys like Woo, Rathbone, Lind, Hoglander, etc. (they're just not U20 (or they turn 20 before/during the tournament - like Hoglander, for example). Not like there's any issue with that... only that we don't get to see as many of our prospects play in the WJC's. He wasn't part of the U20 squad that is playing some practice games for Finland, so the assumption is that he likely wouldn't be on the roster. 1
