“Hockey Canada confirmed earlier today that a non-core member of its National Junior Team staff has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon learning of the positive test this morning, our staff took immediate action and implemented all precautionary measures to avoid risk of exposure to our players, coaches and support staff. The staff member who tested positive, as well as a number of colleagues who have been in close contact with that person, were placed in quarantine at the team hotel in Red Deer. Tonight’s Red-White game will proceed as planned, as protocols have dictated that the health and safety of the athletes has not been compromised.

As per Hockey Canada’s safety protocols, all players, coaches and staff members took mandatory COVID-19 tests upon arrival at camp, and have continued to be tested regularly throughout the week. Our medical team will continue to follow all protocols as directed by Alberta Health Services, and will monitor the situation closely. The appropriate local and provincial health authorities have been made aware of the situation, and we will have no further comment at this time.”

The IIHF announced the refs and linesmen for the tournament - all are Canadian based.

With the World Juniors being played in a “competition bubble”, the IIHF Officiating Committee has selected game officials that currently residing within the host country Canada. The decision to use only Canadian-based officials was made based due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on travel restrictions in the individual countries, as well as the existing health and safety regulations in Canada.

“The game officials we would normally choose would have come from many different countries,” said IIHF Officiating Manager Danny Kurmann. “Every additional person we bring into the bubble is a risk, so we decided to source the officials locally in order to reduce the risk to travelling personnel and teams.”

Well, I guess it's you and Trump!  Comrade.

Go, Russia Go!

Not sure why you'd bother with this almost a month after the fact.

If I want to root for countries featuring Canuck prospects there's nothing wrong with that, but a Russia/Trump reference is baffling considering I made no reference to politics.

I'd rather cut ghost peppers and then urinate without washing my hands than cheer for Russia against Canada.

Team Sweden might consider to cancel their participation in the coming WJC if the negative covid trend in the team continues, said the General Secretary of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association Johan Stark:

The junior players have recently arrived in Sundsvall for the preparatory camp for the WJC.

Since last Saturday, however, seven people have tested positive for Covid-19. Four players and three coaches, including head coach Tomas Montén , are not allowed now to travel to Canada where the championship will be played.

Should the virus continue to spread within the Swedish WJC squad, it may be relevant for the Swedish Ice Hockey Association to make a decision not to travel to Edmonton.

- If we see that the trend is going in the wrong direction, we must consider whether participation is possible or not, says Secretary General  Johan Stark  to TT.

The Swedish team is now doing everything it can to ensure that Covid-19 stays out of the squad.

- We have medical expertise in place and strictly follow the protocol and it does not work ... we must relate to a solution for participation and at the same time follow the situation internally to ensure that we have a safe environment for our practitioners, says Secretary General Stark.

On Sunday 13 December, the Junior Crowns will fly to Canada to participate in the Junior World Cup which will be played in Edmonton. To guarantee Swedish participation in the championship, it is now required that no more players test positive for the Corona virus.
