Thanks Mike,

For me, the Devils have been the barometer for a long time that we know we are likely to get early in the playoffs; a formidable opponent to say the least.

We are proud here in Washington of our roster assembly but to say we haven't grown a little frustrated would be a lie.

Since 2012 when we lost in the finals to the LA Kings on the backs of Patrik Elias, Keith Yandle and a group of unheralded underdogs the Capitals have only managed to win one playoff series in six appearances.

Getting Mike and the Devils with as strong a roster as ever in the first round will be no easy task, especially without John Klingberg or Patrik Laine. For a team that had another strong regular season we still feel like we are coming into this series as major underdogs and are hoping that for once the bounces go our way and we can scrape through what will be a very tough battle.

The Caps in my mind have never had the best players in the league but we have always prided ourselves in finding depth and contributions at every position top to bottom So far we are getting the types of performances necessary to beat the beast as a number of players have made contributions early. To win, we will need this to not only maintain this pace but also likely get some star level performances from our top players.

We already have:

An OT winner scored by 4th line centre Nic Dowd

Dowd was originally a Capital target out of St. Cloud University. We were proud to develop him and when the opportunity arose to bring him back this offseason we were thrilled to bring one of our own back. To say that he has done us proud already this playoffs would be an understatement and we believe that he is at the peak of his hockey career and has the ability to be a key contributor to us in our bottom 6.

Keith Yandle is the longest serving Capital. He is the only player on the entire team that has been here longer than me. I took this team over in 2010 and Yandle was a young puck moving d-man who we liked the look of and have built around for a long time. He has incredibly not missed a game during my entire tenure. There have been plenty of seasons where Keith has been on non playoff teams but he is such an icon with regards to how we try to run our organization from a loyalty perspective that we have kept him around. Thrilled to have him in our lineup this year when we need him most, he has already accumulated two assists in his first game.

Shoutouts to Matt GrzelcykCarter Verhaeghe, and Steven Lorentz as well who have all stepped up in their roles and are keeping pace with the Devils stacked roster. These guys may not be household names but they are big reasons why the Capitals have had such a strong regular season.

CURRENT PICK = Franchise that currently owns that teams 1st if traded.

POINTS = Teams totals for end of 2021 Regular Season.

ODDS = Lottery odds for all teams for our GML draft lottery.

Further Details:

Still waiting on a final confirmation on season end totals from today's Canucks/Flames game. Barring no changes I believe this will be the positioning leading into the Draft Lottery. We have a few close teams so we will want to double check tomorrow. To my knowledge - correct me if I am wrong Seattle gets the third best odds bumping The Leafs down to 4th. Given the change to our draft lottery though this will affect in no way draft lottery odds. @canuck2xtreme will provide the full information on the changes we have made to the draft lottery system in the coming weeks. (We voted on implementing this - this season).

If you see an error - Please let me know. I just threw this together real quick.

20th!

At the start of the season we wanted to at least be in the 'middle third' which for my purposes was decidedly between 10th and 20th place: while we likely shrugged down a few lotto spots I am thrilled that we, barely mind you, but the Rangers made our goal of 20th, the 'middle third' is ours. Another step will come next year. Loving it.
