kingofsurrey
I like history... and i find unknown great athetes.. very interesting. Ted Hunt from Vancouver is pretty interesting in my opinion - Rugby Canada / UBC Rugby Captain ( played against Aussies and British Lions ) CFL Football ( top canadian/rookie of year ) , Winter Olympic skier, Golden Glove Boxer, Lacross Mann cup ( twice ) An all-round athlete, Ted Hunt excelled in rugby, skiing, football, and boxing. He was the recipient of the “BC Athlete of the Year” award in 1957 and UBC’s Bobby Gaul Trophy in 1958 (awarded in recognition of sportsmanship, leadership, and ability). Ted married swimmer Helen Stewart, who was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 1968. Hunt captained the UBC Thunderbirds rugby team and the Kats Rugby Football Club (both multiple trophy winners), as well as the BC team that held the Canadian championship title from 1958-69 (no championships held from 1960-66). He was a member of the BC team whose international victories included defeating Australia’s Wallabies in 1958 and the British Lions in 1966. Amazingly, Hunt had not played any competitive football until his first pro game with the BC Lions. He played with the Lions from 1957-59, in his first year named “Rookie of the Year.” The following season he was named “Most Valuable Canadian.” In 1951, Hunt was the Western Canadian four-way ski champion, an event consisting of a combination of cross-country, downhill, slalom, and ski-jumping. Hunt was named to the Canadian Olympic ski-jumping team in 1952 and the world championship team in 1954 (Federation International De Ski). He took eighth place at the 1954 Swedish national ski jumping championships. Hunt played seven seasons with the Vancouver Burrards lacrosse team, winning the Canadian Mann Cup championships in 1961 and 1964. Unbelievably, Hunt retained an undefeated record in lightweight boxing during his four-and-a-half years at UBC. He was named Golden Gloves “Best Boxer” in 1957.
King Heffy
You don't see multi sport stars like this anymore. Suspect part of it is due to off-season training regimens instead of guys staying in shape by playing another sport. That's one hell of a career.
kingofsurrey
Ted Hunt - also played water polo for UBC. After retirement was a VSB trustee for close to 10 years.... and has also wrote 4-5 books that are all published.. He was good friend of Sean Connery... who often flew up to BC to hang out and go golf with him..... https://www.sprucegroveexaminer.com/sports/golf/why-sean-connery-loved-golfing-in-vancouver/wcm/d353f2d0-ee63-4019-b138-d2a56b865f61 What a life......
