-The Pearson/Eriksson “shut down” line remains intact, but with Sutter as the center.

-Virtanen gets the promotion of a life time playing alongside Horvat and Pettersson.  Edler and Schmidt playing behind this trio should help account for JV’s defensive lapses.

-Miller playing with Gaudette helps Gaudette out a lot in terms of face-offs and defensive cover-ups.

Hi I heard on the radio earlier someone mention about potentially juggling the lineup this coming season, and it could be very interesting, especially with the development of the young guys and the up and comers.  Petterson is such a threat alone that he could be deployed alongside more supporting players such as a MacEwan, Gaudette etc.

This would free up Miller and Boeser to present such a greater scoring threat for our other lines.

Wouldn't it be great if Lind or Hoglander were ready?

Thanks guys!  be well , take care, we are all loved.

Miller - Petterson - MacEwan       Miller - Petterson - Boeser

Pearson - Horvat - Virtanen         Pearson - Horvat - Virtanen

Roussel - Gaudette - Boeser       Roussel - Gaudette - MacEwan

Motte - Beagle - Sutter                 Motte - Beagle - Sutter

Eriksson                                       Eriksson

Edler - Myers                                Hughes - Myers

Hughes - Schmidt                         Edler    -  Schmidt

Juolevi - UFA/Trade                     Juolevi  -  UFA
Benn                                             Benn

Demko/Holtby

That's a good point. Petey can make threats out of anyone.

Kind of like Crosby with rust or guentzel or sheary etc.

I still like the 6 40 9 line together but just for kicks..

Miller Horvat Boeser

Hoglander Pettersson MacEwen

Pearson Sutter Gaudette

Motte Beagle Virtanen

Hawryluk/Roussel

Hughes Schmidt

Edler Myers

Juolevi Benn

Rafferty

Demko

Holtby

Zero percent chance Big Mac is top 6 forward next season.

Love him competing for a spot on  the 4th.... but no chance he is top 6.

Could maybe even turn that 3rd line into a more offensive line if Ferland was healthy AND if MacEwen could play centre.

Pettersson-Horvat-Virtanen

Miller-Gaudette-Boeser

Pearson-MacEwen-Ferland. (or, Pearson-Sutter-MacEwen)

Roussel-Beagle-Motte

Sutter = 13th forward; him and Ferland alternative in the line-up as part of a load management strategy.

Eriksson gets sent to the minors.

I’d probably still be more inclined to do the ‘stack’ idea if I was going to entertain this sort of thing however,  but have Pearson on the Gaudette’s left side instead of Virtanen (give the line a more defensive element while giving the line another left handed shooter).

Miller-Horvat-Pettersson /Edler-Schmidt (think:  2011 Sedins’/Burrows/Erhoff/Edler dominance)

Pearson-Gaudette-Boeser / Hughes-Myers.  Hughes being on this pairing would open things up offensively

Roussel-Sutter-Virtanen / Juolevi-Benn.  Not the greatest offensively, but this line would still have a chance of producing offense.

Motte-Beagle-MacEwen

Demko

Holtby

Eriksson to the minors if Ferland is healthy.   Ferland and Sutter alternate games as part of a load management strategy.

Three line balance:

The line-up below is probably the closest to ‘being balanced’ that I can think of.

Roussel-Pettersson-Boeser (Ferland as LW)

Miller-Gaudette-Virtanen (Sutter as C)

Pearson-Horvat-Eriksson

Motte-Beagle-MacEwen

Sutter to the minors or Ferland on LTIR.

If Ferland is done, then Sutter becomes the 13th forward and alternates with Gaudette as part of a load management strategy.

If Ferland can play, then Sutter goes to the minors and Ferland alternates with Roussel as part of a load management strategy).

How we likely start:

Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen

Pearson - Horvat - Boeser

Roussel - Gaudette - Sutter

Motte - Beagle - MacEwan

Eriksson, Ferlund (LTR)

How I’d like to Start:

Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen

Hoglander - Horvat - Boeser

Pearson - Sutter - Eriksson

Motte - Beagle - Hawrlyuk

MacEwan, Ferlund (LTR), Roussel

Move Gaudette for a young defensive Center prospect with PK1 upside to replace Sutter/Beagle in the near future. Costmar/Karlsson could change this but that’s my opinion for the present.

Move Gaudette ? Gaudette has gotten better each year offensively and defensively give him one more year to develope he wil be a plus player 35 to 45 points this year.

I understand that. But long term I don’t think he has a place on this team. If Benning and Green think he can develop into  elite or at least solid two way Center that’s fine, but With Petey and Bo on the top two lines, the top two centres are set long term, so either Gaudette needs to become a top PKer, or moved for a top PKer in the same age range.

DIR you may just be onto something there....would be interesting to try out.   Turns out third line into a shut down one, and the thing I like the most is it gives Horvat the wingers he deserves.

I think it’ll largely depend on who makes the jump from a prospect to the NHL. Without knowing that it’s tough to figure how things shake out.

Ideally we’d want all 4 lines to be balanced with a shooter, a set up guy and a grinder/puck retriever, but to varying levels with at least one guy on each line who has defensive capabilities so as not to get caught too much. Of course this is reality not the ideal world, so it’s unlikely to happen.

Imo we definitely need to not do 1 line for each need (offense, defense, grinders, new guys), though obviously the 2nd line is more defensively skilled then any of the others because of their toughest matchup, so like I said, varying levels.

Going to be exciting to see who makes it up for a chance or career from our talented prospect pool at the start and throughout the season!

This is the most realistic line up I can see happening, maybe Jake and Boeser switch some games.

I would go with a 20-man roster, with extra players on the taxi squad "papered down" so that we can save $1.075m of cap on the higher paid players...

Miller Pettersson Boeser

Pearson Horvat Virtanen

Roussel Gaudette Ferland

Motte Beagle MacEwen

Hughes Schmidt

Edler Myers

Juolevi Rutta (signed for $700k to add vet presence on 3RD)

Holtby, Demko

The above roster gives us $2.15m in cap space, so helps to cover bonuses from 2020/21 and is just enough room to bring in 2 players from the taxi squad if required, before needing to put anyone on LTIR.

Taxi squad extras:

Sutter, Eriksson, Baer, Hawryluk

Benn, Rafferty, Brisebois

Kielly

Hopefully there is an AHL season so that our young guys can get experience and game time to develop rather than being on the taxi squad...

Miller Pettersson Boeser                           first line, stick with what works.

Pearson Horvat Sutter                               we will have a  improved 2nd line with sutter providing more than LE.

Hoglander Gaudette Virtanen                    Hoglander is Ready , he will work hard in the corners and feed gaudette and virtanen.

Motte Beagle Ferland                                the energy line  is all dependent on ferlands health, He's a heck of a player when Healthy.

Roussel                                                     He's in the doghouse after the playoffs.

Edler Schmidt                                            edler and schmidt will compliment each other. they will play most of thier time against the elite

Hughes Myers                                            hughes and myers played well together last year

Rafferty Benn/UFA                                     shelter these boys. Yikes, I Really Hope aquaman will spare a dime. Rafferty is more ready than joulevi

Assuming Ferland begins the year on the IR, Baertschi doesn’t make the team and there are no surprise prospects to make the team out of camp, this is what I’d like to see:

Miller          Pettersson   Boeser

Pearson     Horvat          Gaudette

Roussel      Sutter           Virtanen

Motte         Beagle          MacKewan

        Hughes        Schmidt

        Edler             Rafferty

        Juolevi          Myers

                   Holtby

                   Demko

Scratches:

Hawryluk

Baertschi

Eriksson

Benn

IR:

Ferland

Call ups:

Lind

Rathbone

Not sure what the total number of roster spots allowed will be or if there will be a taxi squad this season due to Covid but that’s a lot of salary either scratched or in the minors. Yikes.

Two trades first and a signing

Trade one Virtanen and Baertschi to Ottawa for  Gaborik  (put him on IR)

Trade two : Pearson to Vegas for Pacioretty (This gets Vegas under the cap)

Signing : J. Rutta Right D for $700,000

Miller        Pettersson   Boeser

Pacioretty     Horvat      Sutter  / Bailey / MacEwen

Ferland       Gaudette       Bailey  / Sutter

Motte         Beagle         MacEwen / Sutter

        Hughes       Myers

        Edler           Schmidt

        Juolevi          Rutta

                   Holtby

                   Demko

Scratches: Hawryluk, Rafferty, Benn

Utica :Eriksson, Roussel

Cap works out.
