Popular Post -DLC-
This looks incredible! I'm glad that some of the guys are finding a way to stay connected during this horrible time. Quote About 18 hours ago By: Daniel Wagner Four current Canucks and two former Canucks spent a day on a frozen lake in the mountains north of Vancouver playing shinny in a spectacular setting. photo: Bradley Friesen / YouTube Several Canucks got back on the ice in fantastic fashion earlier this month at 6000 feet above sea level. Elias Pettersson, Thatcher Demko, Alex Edler, and Zack MacEwen were joined by former Canucks Troy Stecher and Jason Garrison to play shinny on a frozen lake in the mountains north of Vancouver. Or, as Alberta's NHL Hub City pitch video would put it, just outside of Edmonton. The entire experience was captured in a photo essay for the New York Times showing the magnificent mountain views and stunning glacial ice. The spectacular setting was made possible by chunks of glacier ice floating to the top of a lake, then remaining like icebergs sticking out of the lake when it froze over. The current and former Canucks were joined by a few other players for some four-on-four hockey. Advertisement While the New York Times claimed that Demko played goaltender for both teams, all of the photos show Demko in an Anderson .Paak hoodie and long pants. In a group shot, there's another unnamed goaltender suited up in Demko's gear. Olympic gold medallist Patrick Chan was also along for the ride, as well as his wife, figure skater Elizabeth Putnam. Chan was there to play hockey with some NHL stars, but managed to pull off some figure skating moves in his hockey skates as well. Unsurprisingly, Pettersson was the last one off the ice. While the rest of the group grew cold and was ready to leave, Pettersson wasn't ready to call it a day. "When's the next time I'll be able to skate at the top of the mountains?" he said, which was probably just an excuse so he could keep practicing. There's something bittersweet as well seeing Stecher still spending time with his now-former teammates. As the Spice Girls once said, "Friendship never ends." The excursion was made possible by helicopter pilot and social media influencer Bradley Friesen, who has pulled off similar stunts with the Canucks in the past. One of those stunts led to Daniel Sedin unwittingly flying with a convicted drug smuggler, Edward "Skeeter" Russell. A year before that, Friesen took Bo Horvat and Sven Baertschi up to a frozen lake to go skating in a spectacular setting. That time it was Baertschi riding with "Skeeter." 6 3 1
-DLC-
I don't dare edit a post (it's been funky lately), but here's the link: https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/canucks-hockey/glacier-hockey-pettersson-demko-edler-macewen-and-friends-took-a-helicopter-ride-to-play-hockey-on-a-frozen-lake-canucks-shinny-3137973?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook And the photo essay, which is absolutely breathtaking: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/29/sports/hockey/29-nhl-lake-hockey-elias-pettersson.html?utm_source=vancouver is awesome&utm_campaign=vancouver is awesome&utm_medium=referral

Popular Post CRAZY_4_NAZZY
It hurts me everytime when I see Stech referred now as a former Canuck and seeing that he no longer dons the Canuck colours (as he has stop using the Canuck gloves, switched for his team Canada ones, and has taken the green tape off his stick and switched to a red bauer stick instead of his usual blue.)

Unfortunately only available via helicopter at 6000ft up. I wonder how much it would cost to take a trip up there? Would definitely be something on the bucket list to play hockey on a mountain like that. Get up early and bring beer and a BBQ and it would be a day to remember. 1 1 1
Ghostsof1915
Bad enough I can hardly ski and I can barely skate. But it looks perfect.
Coconuts
Cool of them to invite Mr. Garrison, always liked him. I'd assume that was Edler's doing, the others wouldn't have been around when he was a Canuck.
Chickenspear
Damn jealous of those guys. I've always wanted to do something like that. Maybe we should all go for a getaway once Covid vaccines are ready.
-DLC-
Doesn't it look great? I'm not a traveler but damn if I'm not going to plan a family vacation and head off somewhere with my kids when it's deemed safe to do so. Life's too short and we really have been getting a taste of what missing out is like. Going to use every moment of my life to the fullest because, well, you just never know what fate will deal. I love that the guys got to do this.....these are team bonding experiences that create memories that build the brotherhood together. Happy for Stech that he got to be part of it....local boy deserves to "showcase" his backyard a bit before he has to move on. I love that we're getting a bit of sun this week....headed to the river yesterday after work and it's really re-energizing to do so. Everyone should get some outside time at some point...clears the cobwebs. Nature's a good way to "forget", momentarily, that things are awful right now.

I want to say it was in the ballpark of $1000-$1200, but I do not remember how much time is allotted. My wife and I both play hockey, on one of our anniversaries I want to pay for both of us to fly up to a frozen lake on a mountain and play a little puck and have a beer.

The one we did from Squamish was literally 5 minutes but amazing, and tbh kind of freaky. Helicopters are weird to be in, not sure I want to do it again once was enough
