We're about to have a showdown between the man made construct known as the economy and market vs basic rights to life.

This should be very interesting.

In keeping with this........

How full is everyone's freezer and root cellar? Maybe time for, those that haven't yet, to go mega shopping.

JUST IN: B.C. has granted regional medical health officers the powers to issue #COVID19 restrictions for their own jurisdictions. It comes as the province topped 6,000 people in isolation due to exposure for the first time.

Let’s not encourage hoarding again. The supply chains are good and there’s no need to ‘stock up’. We don’t want to create an artificial supply drop and long lines at our stores again, right?

I wasn't the one announcing a fight between the economy and right to life, now was I? :P

What nonsense. Dr. Henry is the provincial health officer who is putting this through. :picard:

Any time anti maskers like Dr. B  give up decision making will be a benefit to BC.

Health of BC ers should never be jeopardized ...   Lets keep our seniors alive and healthy.

Dr. Henry mandates masks on all forms of public transit.

Your anti-mask label is contrary to reality. I believe that’s called a delusion.

Coronavirus - UK PM Johnson to announce a new lockdown, through to until December 2

Sat 31 Oct 2020 16:17:03 GMT

As COVID-19 cases in the UK accelerate higher Prime Minister Johnson will soon  announce another shutdown. The measures will take effect from Thursday after a vote in the Commons on Wednesday.

The main points, these via various UK media outlets with the info:
  • pubs and restaurants to close - takeaway and delivery only
  • non-essential retail to close
  • manufacturing, construction permitted to continue
  • outbound international travel banned, intra-UK travel restrictions (both except for work)
  • schools, universities open
  • outdoor exercise and recreation permitted
  • no church services
A month-long lockdown of this nature will slow the spread of the virus but given the experience in Melbourne (Australia) a meaningful flattening of the curve would take longer and the measures would have to be even more restrictive. What Johnson's measures should perhaps do though is relieve some of the pressure on the UK healthcare system for a time, which is a positive.
----
Latest UK number (for Saturday)
  • just under 22,000 new confirmed cases (24,400 Friday)
  • 326 deaths (274 on Friday)
Johnson's press conference expected at 1700GMT. The new lock down was more or less inevitable given the rocketing number of infections and the approaches taken in Germany and France.

Long haulers.

We'll start hearing more about these poor people and it's an extra scary concern regarding this disease.

@gurn you got me thinking about this more. As you mentioned in your email, can we get some data on this? There are quite a few articles about it...

Researchers studying this in London have found that the median age of long-haulers is 45 and that women are more likely to be affected.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce a second national lockdown for England as the UK passed one million Covid-19 cases.

Non-essential shops and hospitality will have to close for a month, sources told the BBC.

But unlike the restrictions in the spring, schools and colleges are to be allowed to stay open.

I thought of you.

My in-laws had 'the worst flu they have ever had' back about 4 months ago. My father in-law still doesn't feel right. I think they looked into getting anit-body tests done but were told they couldn't get them.

I haven't had a healthy day since February.  It's not debilitating and it's not getting worse, but not getting much better either.......very slowly

New month long lockdown here in the UK. Schools and universities remain open, but non-essential retail closes down. Pubs, restaurants, and bars close unless except for takeaway or delivery. The only reason you can leave your house is for work, education, food (and other essentials) shopping, medical appointments, exercise, safety...

BC has the most lax mask laws / requirments  in all of  Canada. Your failure to comprehend this ...   Wells thats called a delusion.

Wear a mask....  Government mask requirements would save  bc lives..  It is just a small thing that we can all do for each other.

I’m in Golden right now (from Calgary). Went to the Liquor Store here last night, the sign on the door said “Masks strongly encouraged”. I wore mine, but nobody else bothered. Not the 3 other customers, and not even the employee.

I think more and more businesses here in BC  will be putting up signs like this.........    " Leadership from Dr. B and Horgan strongly encouraged...... "
