Hospitalizations continue to go down.  Nice drop in deaths.   Hopefully this continues.

Two of my brothers and my Dad got covid and it was like a mild cold they said. Happy they are safe now and well. <3

My unvaccinated dad just got over a 10 day bout with covid. Pretty rough for him. Today was the first day he felt fairly normal. He said he had much worse flus but this felt very strange and different. Glad he is on the mend. He is in a very social job so it was surprising he lasted this long without getting it (unless he was asymptomatic previously).

Tell your dad he’s being both foolish and selfish (unless he has a medical excuse, of course) for being unvaccinated.

"In a very social job".  I'd be just as concerned if person didn't infect anybody (hopefully person wore a facemask or faceshield at that social job since they weren't vac'd).

CDC: Deadly listeria outbreak spanning 10 states linked to ice cream

Nearly two dozen people from 10 states have been sickened, according to the CDC, with the bulk of them being reported in Florida. Other cases were reported in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

 

The first cases were reported back in January, but have continued through June, when two more people became sick.

In total, 23 people were sickened, and all but one were hospitalized. One person died, and one of the sickened pregnant patients (of which there were five) lost their fetus, according to the CDC.

 

The CDC said Big Olaf Creamery is contacting all known retail locations and businesses to recommend against selling their ice cream until further notice. Anyone who purchased Big Olaf Creamery ice cream is urged to throw it away.

 

Big Olaf Creamery said in a statement that while the company is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, “it is only speculation” that their ice cream is the culprit.

 

Our brand has not been confirmed to be linked to these cases,” the statement reads. “Nothing has been proven.”

 

Listeria is one of the most dangerous forms of food poisoning. Symptoms usually start one to four weeks after eating contaminated food, but can start as soon as the same day. Those symptoms include fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea, among others.

While it can be treated with antibiotics, listeria is especially dangerous to pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

Canada is about to toss more than half of its doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine because it couldn’t find any takers for it either in or outside of Canada.

 

A statement from Health Canada says 13.6 million doses of the vaccine expired in the spring and will be thrown out.

 

A year ago Canada said it would donate almost 18 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to lower-income countries.

 

As of June 22, almost nine million doses were delivered to 21 different nations.

 

But Health Canada says there is limited demand for the AstraZeneca vaccine and it hasn’t been able to find more takers for the doses available.

 

Canada has also donated 6.1 million doses of Moderna’s vaccine out of 10 million doses promised for donation, but has thrown out another 1.2 million doses of that vaccine.
