Pfizer expects to hike U.S. COVID vaccine price to $110-$130 per dose

NEW YORK — Pfizer Inc expects to roughly quadruple the price of its COVID-19 vaccine to about $110 to $130 per dose after the United States government’s current purchase program expires, Pfizer executive Angela Lukin said on Thursday.

Lukin said she expects the vaccine – currently provided for free to all by the government – will be made available at no cost to people who have private insurance or government paid insurance.

Reuters earlier on Thursday reported that Wall Street was expecting such price hikes due to weak demand for COVID vaccines, which meant vaccine makers would need to hike prices to meet revenue forecasts for 2023 and beyond.

The U.S. government currently pays around $30 per dose to Pfizer and German partner BioNTech SE. In 2023, the market is expected to move to private insurance after the U.S. public health emergency expires.

“We are confident that the U.S. price point of the COVID-19 vaccine reflects its overall cost effectiveness and ensures the price will not be a barrier for access for patients,” Lukin said.

It is not yet clear what kind of access people without health insurance will have to the vaccine.

I wonder how this will effect our manufacturing partnership with Moderna in Canada?

they must be banking on the republicans gaining a majority in at least one of the senate or house.

Everyone expected some kind of prince increase, and you could maybe argue for something due to lower demand, etc.  but this is just purely grabbing as much as they can.

Looks like a pandemic and not so much endemic.

But hey, you know, let's stop doing what worked (distancing/minimizing gatherings, masking) and instead let's start throwing parties and major events and "revenge travel" like the whole fucking pandemic is over!  Because people want to "live their lives like 'normal'" instead of re-experiencing health mandates such as smelling their own foul breath and keeping distances from other people... :picard:

Went and caught a cold or flu.  hit me like a truck late last night, made me whiny and snappy.  Had covid last feb, still have some small weird issues from it; but haven't had a cold in forever.

First time in my life a cold has hit me like this, negative test which is good; but the chest hurts and breathing is hard as hell right now.  Not like, scary at all.  Just never had something climb on top of me like this; this hard, this fast and the only thing I can attribute it to is the lingering issues I've had from catching the vid.

Take care. And keep testing for the next few days.

Going through my school like nobodies business.   A lot of students away, a lot of staff away.  Tested positive last Wednesday night and finished my isolation Monday night.  All symptoms were minor.  The greatest discomfort issues from sleeping on the sofa bed and going through caffeine withdrawl.  Nobody in my household got it from me though.

I noticed... I kid, I kid.

Co-workers got that flu too for about a week. I had it for about two days.

Funny that you mention being snappy. For the first time in years I considered giving a guy (co-worker) a pop on the nose. I have a temper but usually a long fuse. Thankfully he backdown so nothing happened. I apologised a couple days later with the classic ' I meant what I said but I am sorry for the way I said it'.

I was sorry, very embarrassed with myself for the emotions I displayed.

I'm now going to go ahead and blame my outburst on the cold I had. ;)

Just got my 3rd booster (am Asthmatic so playing it safe) - got the Pfizer Bivalent and other than a sore arm for a day all good. Co-workers harassing me for getting another booster but am one of only 2 in a plant of 120 people per shift who has not gotten Covid yet.
