There needs to be further clarification on this post. Due to the fact that over 80% of cases are mild, there are MANY cases that aren't reported. So the 3.4% mortality rate reported by the World Health Organization is actually much lower. Simply put, you can only record what's on your radar. People aren't going to report to the hospital for a runny nose or a mild cough.

Just FYI, runny nose is not a symptom of Covid19

Italy coronavirus cases rise to 15,113 from 12,462 yesterday

Thu 12 Mar 2020 17:13:50 GMT

Cases rise by 2,651

Deaths in Italy have risen to 1,016. There were a total of 196 deaths yesterday but that fell to 119 today.

To put this in perspective in January Italy had around 3 million reported flu cases with 240 deaths.

We can agree to disagree and that's ok.

but personally I am FAR more worried about the level of people that will be travelling from major urban centres with prominent cases of this to smaller areas and townships that are as of now currently unaffected

Yeah, I suggested stopping as much of those as we can too. AKA 'travel ban' AND borders.

Yeah you're probably not going to stop every last college student in their beat up 98 Civic driving home to ma and pa from college but a wholesale shut down of flights and otherwise heavily restricted/discouraged travel and closed borders would help slow down transmission.

And it's entirely feasible.

people, consistent with trump, are engaging in diversion and distraction

travel restrictions are no longer a valid method of dealing with this problem

mode ot travel is a concern however

do not sit in confined areas with many people with poor air ventilation

but otherwise travel is a red herring

the most important factor presently to consider is very simple

personal hygiene - lots of effective hand washing and not touching any face with your hands

social distancing - step back when interacting with others

these are really the 2 most important factors

which need to be repeatedly stressed

if you are speaking about things other then these 2 main factors

you are missing the point

More perspective, factories were running full steam, many global markets were at all time highs, People were allowed to go anywhere they wanted, schools were not shuttered, buying toilet paper did not involve getting into fist fights.

A new report coming from Chinese doctors that says some recovered patients are experiencing a 20 to 30% drop in lung function. Keep in mind this is an early report so nothing is 100% confirmed yet. A good way to gauge whether these types of things are factual is to wait and see if other countries and doctors start reporting similarities.

Reports from multiple sources around the world have proven that this illness can cause permanent lung scarring and organ damage regardless of age.

I don't want to fear monger these are just the facts being reported. Be careful, and every extra precaution you can take may help someone else.

The disease is airborne. As much as good hygiene is a laudable quality now, as always, it's got very little to do with slowing down the spread.

Breathing the same air as large groups of people from varying areas (particularly in travel hubs like buses, trains, planes and their stations, airports etc) and then going to different areas of your country or other countries with those things, will increase it.

As a father of a 3 months old and a 2 year old with lung disease..... It's hard not to be concerned.

But still not at the stockpiling of toilet paper stage yet.

Now completely unrelated.....off to the gun store for some ammo....

Leave some for the rest of us Bart ;)

i strongly recommend

that if there is uncertainty about this virus issue

that people check in daily with the bc medical health office in charge, Dr. Henry

to clear up what is important and what they should be doing

do not guess or rely on what you might hear on here or from other sources

we have excellent medical guidance in this province
