Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt Tests Positive for Coronavirus as State Cases Surge

Oklahoma health officials reported record number of COVID-19 cases in the state this week, three weeks after President Donald Trump held a controversial rally in Tulsa, Okla., on June 20.

On Saturday, the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) reported 687 new COVID-19 cases had been confirmed in the last 24 hours. It was the second highest increase only coming after Tuesday’s 858 confirmed cases, per the Oklahoman. As of Saturday afternoon ET, Oklahoma had at least 19,779 confirmed cases of the virus, according to OSDH.

According to a reporter for local news channel KOCO 5, the seven-day average of COVID-19 cases is nearly six times what it was in early April. Officials also reported five new COVID-19 related deaths on Saturday. There have been at least 421 confirmed deaths in total from the virus in the state, according to OSDH.

I'm sure this is somehow the fault of "The Left"....or "Dr Fauci"....or the old standby, Obama.....

....anyone but Trump....<_<

One reported case (which was a teacher/staff that brought it in) and it's about 3 weeks since end of school with a reduced class size.  So maybe, just maybe, perhaps, just a little....Dr. Bonnie Henry knows what she's doing?

85% of BC highschools students/ their  parents refused to follow BC government recommendations.  Good thing.

Covid science was so lacking.  many mistakes made in every country.

Main mistake in BC was lack of support for by government for people to wear masks... Mixed messages were sent out.

Sheesh you never give credit where credit is due.

The real challenge will be September when the new school semester starts.  While Horgan (I think or maybe it was the Education minister) said they wanted students be back full time (100%), I seriously doubt that happening.  We seen how well the resumption of school worked in June, so there will be modified plans based off of that.

From the rumors I have heard, it would be 2 full days for K-7 with online studies.  Full time for kids with parents that cannot accommodate (ie. first line workers, parents who cannot telework, etc).  Not sure about Grade 8-12 but probably 1-2 day at school with online studies.

The challenge for students (and parents) is that if they start to fall behind, it will be very hard to catch up.

Ok sorry but I have to say something here - as I have said in other venues I will take my advise from a Doctor any day. You are not honestly arguing that Fauci does not know what he is talking about - the issue south of the border is two-fold (one which you mentioned in a different post) political gain - each side is using this to score points in an election year, The other and biggest issue is the person who is supposed to be leading by example and taking the lead on this pandemic is spreading false information and re-tweeting game show hosts opinions about everyone is lying about the pandemic. He needs to be listening to people like Dr Fauci - and if you are questioning the guy on his credentials you might want to spend some of that time you do googling facts to post on here and read up on what he has accomplished and his background with diseases and outbreaks.

I know people always feel the need to say that to appear fair and balanced, but that's complete and utter bs.  The only ones politisizing this situation is the Repugnants and their cult followers.  Everyone else just wants everyone else to listen to the actual experts.........like other countries have successfully done.

LOL -  If you think schools went well in June...     2 kids per class  doing very little schoolwork is going well for you......

Schools reopening may lead to outbreaks, but we can’t afford to keep them closed: experts

http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/schools-reopening-may-lead-to-outbreaks-but-we-can-t-afford-to-keep-them-closed-experts/ar-BB16M1iR?li=AAggXBV&ocid=iehp

As parts of Canada continue to reopen after coronavirus closures, schools are preparing to welcome kids back to the classroom in the coming months.

Most provinces and territories have released plans for reopening schools chock full of safety measures — including physically distanced desks, face masks or shields for staff and staggered pickup and drop-off times, among other things. But experts warn that the schooling experience will require some trial and error.

"All these measures we're putting into place (are) driven by what the science is telling us would be required to try and reduce transmission ... but you have to factor in how feasible it is," said Dr. Susy Hota, an infectious disease specialist at the University Health Network.

In British Columbia, desks will be spaced apart, group gatherings in hallways and other common areas will be prohibited, and students will spend increased time outdoors.

************

Even with the best of measures, I expect a few cases will crop up in schools.

Maybe in your school district.  My kids elementary school had average of 7-8 kids per class that went back.  From the teachers and parents I've talked to said it worked well given the circumstances.

So what do you propose should happen in September??

Yah, a few kids playing with toys at their desk and using crayons is going well for you.

This is called babysitting.   It is not education.

I think when they say 100%, they mean it'sno longer "optional" and that students will be required to come to school..  I don't see anyway they are putting 30 kids, a teacher and an EA in the classrooms in september.  Either they will split up the week, like they did in June, or two groups will come for a half day each.

actually, there was plenty of learning happening.  Teachers were livestreaming their classes and students who came to class had devices and participated alongside the students at home.......they were just in school.  The only "babysitting" were essential worker kids who had to be there 5 days a week.......on the days that they weren't required to be doing schoolwork, they were kept busy with other activities, though often they had assignments to do.

I don't necessarily disagree with your cautious approach to education, but teachers and admin made the best of it.

Do you even have school age kids in the K-7?

My kids had tons of online homework (which I had to help them with even though I had my own work to do at home).  The kids at the school did the same stuff but with the teachers help and support.

So I'm really curious as to what your plan for September is?

Don't have kids go back to school at all??

The king of surrey’s plan is to continue to complain about BC.

Yes, teachers tried their best. Teachers have huge hearts and always do.

But to think zoom / team  meetings with 7 yr olds is effective learning is simply not true....  Trying to learn french immersion with one 30 minute zoom meeting with 18 kids on it is not learning...

It was such a crap spot to put teachers in.  Blended learning with very little training or support....   No easy task for teachers.

My  sister in law hated it and is now ready to retire as a result.

BC plan should be similar to  Denmark but our BC government never wants  to pay for things.

Cheaper to have one teacher work with kids all day in class and zoom every afternoon / evening....

I am totally for kids returning to school.  Just would like to see money spent on sanitizer, masks, hand wash stations etc.....

Taking temperature of staff and students daily at BC schools would also be a great plan.

They do this at many offices... really not sure why schools did not do this in June..
