The New Jersey Devils today re-signed restricted free agent goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood to a three-year contract worth $8,400,000 with an average annual value of $2,800,000. The breakdown is as follows: 2020-21, $1,475,000;  2021-22, $2,800,000;  2022-23, $4,125,000. The announcement was made by New Jersey Devils Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

"Mackenzie is going to be one of the key young, core pieces for this organization for a long time and we are excited and extremely happy to have him under contract," said Fitzgerald. "He's obviously shown that he can be a number one goalie, and the sky's the limit for him."

In his second year with New Jersey, he posted a 22-14-8 record and 2.72 goals-against average in 47 games (43 starts), finishing sixth in Calder Trophy voting and second in NHL All-Rookie Team voting at goaltender. Blackwood posted career highs in games played, starts, wins, shutouts (3), and shutout streak (171:37). Blackwood's performance in February was a career-best, posting a 6-0-1 record, .967 save percentage (leading all NHL goaltenders for the month), and a 1.27 GAA. He earned his first career NHL point on February 6, 2020 recording one assist.

The recently turned 24-year-old (Born: December 9, 1996) was originally selected by New Jersey in the second round, 42nd overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft. In 70 career NHL games, he is 32-24-8 with a 2.72 GAA, .916 save percentage, and five shutouts. On Dec. 18, 2018, against Toronto, he made his NHL debut.

The 6-4, 225 lb. netminder represented his country during the 2019 World Championships in Slovakia, winning the Silver Medal alongside Devils' defenseman, Damon Severson, and under current Devils' Head Coach Lindy Ruff, who was an Assistant Coach. Blackwood also represented Canada during the 2016 U-20 World Junior Championships.

One thing I am glad about this new division is we don't have to play against this guy this season. This guy always beats us and it isn't even funny anymore.

Always gets the goose egg against us. He’s up there with the likes of Connor Hellebuyck. Happy he is not playing us this year as well. Very happy:lol:
