JM_
Gauthier is another good example of why not to get too excited about low 1st round picks. Getting away from the Leaves might be what he needs.

Kerby Rychel, Curtis Lazar, Emilie Poirier, Hunter Shinkaruk, Mirco Mueller, Michael McCarron, Morgan Klimchuk, Samuel Morin, Valeri Nichushkin, and Fredrick Gauthier make up nearly half of the first round of 2013. Lots of duds. The Canucks managed to steal Bo Horvat, and that's incredible, but yeah, some years get overhyped and turn out to be full of disappointments. In a redraft of 2013, you'd actually have a couple of 7th round picks (MacKenzie Weager and Andreas Johnsson) slotting into the first round...goes to show that drafting is a skill. 1

I believe, at the time, the 2013 draft was touted as one of the best draft classes since '03. It just goes to show how much development is still to be had in these kids when they are drafted. Very few are sure things.

I remember Klimchuk being one year away from breaking out every EA NHL game from 2014-2018
