Solid rookie season, nothing worth breaking bank for. Also doesn't make sense for Bear to seek long term deal. If he keeps developing could make more after a 2 year bridge. I doubt he had nearly enough leverage for a long term deal though, even if he wanted to play it safe and ask for one. Lets hope this is how Holland will do business going forward. Don't need Helm, Abdelkader, Nielsen type deals.

I wish Pistol Pete was still handing out deals in the city of chumps. I had gotten used to oilers issuing deals that would handcuff themselves and this just doesn't jive with that.

seems like a nice deal for the kid, don't see it being a team bargain or him being over or underpaid.

He looks like he'll be a solid NHLer but most of the hype about him comes from the fact that he's one of the few rays of light on an otherwise bad Oilers D. I think this is a pretty fair bridge deal.

Yeah, just seems like a fair deal for both sides imo. Bear doesn't have the resume to ask for more, nor did his season warrant a much bigger number. Maybe 3m tops? Is 20ish points good for a rookie D? Absolutely. Is one season of 20 points worth term and a larger number? Probably not, but that depends on the GM. 

 

I think what skews it to look like a better deal than it is is the fact people aren't used to seeing what resembles a competent move from an Oilers GM.
