The Happy New Year Thread

Early, but I can't wait to get rid of 2020 and look toward a more normal future and this is part of that.  This year's really been a test to all of us...one of strength, patience and resilience.  We've learned how important it is to be able to count on one another.  Also...to reflect on what's really most important in life...things we sometimes may take for granted, like time with loved ones.  Family and friends.  I mean, we even grumble at times as the rat race swallows us up and we have to "make" time for others as our focus can become on the drive to acquire money and material things.  But it's a gift not a burden...that's become crystal clear.   That time with others has been threatened and that is an eye opener.  This has forced us to really re-evaluate what IS important...and what's not.

Being forbidden from seeing family is the ultimate eye opener.  Having sports stripped away also really had an impact on me.  All the things that keep me grounded and happy in a simple, stay at home way.   Social isolation is fine if it's chosen...when it's a forced deal, it becomes glaring.  Not being able to hug family, to visit with sick loved ones...the ultimate endurance tests.

We'll soon say goodbye to Trump, COVID and other things that have dragged us along in 2020...will be nice to eventually get a new normal that isn't rooted in so much negativity, angst and uncertainty.

Many changes took place over the past year....some of us lost jobs.  Even greater than that...some lost loved ones.  My heart goes out to each and every person who did.   For me, it was my beloved pet and it really was empty without him, especially with the current state of things.  He was always "there".  Suddenly it was all very overwhelming....losing all the things that mattered so much.

But what I have learned, personally, is that we will eventually be ok and to stay in the moment.  I am grateful for what I do have and won't take any of it for granted after this shtorm (I made it up, you figure it out) passes.

We will have hockey soon and that's something.  A very big something to some of us.  We have a great community here and even when we have been faced to be alone, we don't have to be lonely.

I don't make resolutions but I am trying to be a kinder, gentler, more aware citizen of the world.  That's my promise to myself.  To let go of things more easily and not dwell in the negative.  Wasted space.

Cheers everyone.  The countdown is on.....may you all find happiness, warmth, love and comfort in the coming year.

Best wishes to all our CDC members, for a much better year that sees Covid-19 gradually slip away.  Live long and prosper!:bigblush:

I especially want to acknowledge  the younger folks that are continuing to follow the Covid-19 protocols through NYE and NYD.  I salute every one of you.  Your commitment to your loved ones, neighbours, communities and province is very impressive.:gocan:

Happy new year to everyone.

for once the London nye show looked pretty cool - worth a watch if you can get onto bbc iplayer.

although it did look like the show was controlled by the eye of sauron (the shard light show)

also was an interesting decision to go for end of world theme.

but it does have Sir David Attenborough in it

Very cool...and like UK said, totally evocative of the Eye of Sauron. (which is also very cool)

Also liked the way they lit up the Tower and London bridges.....
