And looking at the condensed schedule this year, we're gonna need all the depth we can get.

We most likely see

Miller-Petey-Boeser

Pearson-Horvat-Gaudette

Motte-Sutter-Virtanen

Roussel-Beagle-MacEwen

Edler-Schmidt

Hughes-Hamonic

Juolevi-Myers

Demko

Holtby

Still want Hoglander to make it tho!

Agreed with everything except I would change Mac and Motte. Motte and Beagle have so much chemistry together that you cannot split them up. I think Roussel just makes that line so much stronger. I predict that those three will give many teams nightmares.

I also think that having Virt and Mac chasing the puck and digging for it in the corners will add longevity to Sutter this season.

With regards to people saying that we could move Sutter out for Gaudette, I do not see it yet. Gaudette needs to be better in the D zone and with faceoffs. Until then Sutter stays the better option for this team.

Completely crazy, left-field third line idea that I'd like to see tried:

Baertschi - Gaudette - Virt

Will never happen because TG will want more shutdown qualities and pk'ers lower in the lineup but man it would be fun have three lines that can score for once.

By all accounts Sven has been working his azz off in camp. I hope he can at least make things interesting and make Green make some tough decisions.

Yes, how dare we muse about the TDL on a discussion board.

Asinine indeed.

i get that pretending to be the gm is fun, heck im doing it too. if it weren't for covid I would be down for trading sutter and his return for a rental. but when the actual GM says he's not expecting to make any trades it takes the fun out of it. It's kinda like imagining what to do with a winning 6-49 ticket, but you're not old enough to buy a ticket.

i like to believe that Green knows what he is doing better than any of us. of the returning forwards sutter had the 6th highest TOI in the regular season and 8th highest in the playoffs(LE was higher in the playoffs SMH) Sutter was also our third most played forward Short Handed and he's a centre. so if we trade sutter we will have to replace those short handed minutes with either Miller,Horvat which is less than ideal because of the grueling schedule. Or we replace those minutes with Graovac,Gaudette and Hawryluk who combined for a total of zero short handed minutes. Sutter and Beagle are very important to our team, we don't have any defensive specialist centres coming up the pipeline.

LE on the other hand can be replaced quite easily, I would love to see Pearson and Hoglander eat those short handed minutes LE played.

Benn is our 7th defenceman, unless one of our rookies can prove to be defensively strong he will most likely be the call up if one of our starter's goes down. By the end of the season he could be pecked down the depth chart and am hoping this is the case too. I believe we are strongest in depth on defense.

Im not saying a trade can't happen, Benn could become expendable if one of the rookies excels, but believe it would be in our best interests to hang onto him. This season depth players are more important than ever before. The compressed season and covid-19 could potentially sideline many player's at the same time. And I honestly believe we are a dark horse contender for the cup, the more depth the better.

It’s been the better part of 3 seasons and Jake and Bo have showed zero chemistry.  How long does Green continue trying to force this chemistry that just isn’t happening?  Jake plays well with Gaudette and Rousell that line has chemistry but Jake and Bo not so much.  I like what I’m seeing from Hoglander, he gives Green so many more options.  He’s an energy winger who can play both wings, he has elite puck skills, good speed and his edge work is close to the best on the team.  Green can plug him up and down the lineup and be confident he will bring high energy to any line he puts him on.  The addition to Nils Hoglander will only be a positive.  I don’t understand peoples hesitation with Hoglander.  Bo has never had a consistent right winger and even if Hoglander only contributes Josh Leivo numbers it’s still a positive.  I’d park Loui in the minors and take the 1 million.

Yeah, never mind Sutter was one of the best fwds in the playoffs.  Brilliant

At the moment it really sounds like it's going to be a dog-fight for the last top-6 winger spot as it usually is. I'd expect it to be between Virtanen, Gaudette, Baertschi and Hoglander but to be honest, it would only be fair if Motte got a proper look in to see if he can elevate his offensive game to the next level. I don't think Green really knows just yet who's going to take the spot so it's up to the boys. I'm expecting it will go to Virtanen or Gaudette, but hoping Baertschi or Hoglander get it because it just means we've got extra scoring ability on our 3rd and 4th lines.

As much as I’d love it I just don’t think Green will have enough trust in The Hog in his own end to put him in the lineup for opening night.

When I look at his modest SHL numbers I do wonder if Hogs game, and ability to produce points, will actually translate better in NHL sized rinks when you look at his small space agility and high end stick skills. Word is he is strong for a smaller player so there is every chance that a compressed ice surface will help his game. Looking at Hogs numbers in the SHL also makes you realize just how remarkable EP’s final SHL season was.

My opening night roster is shaping up as follows (23 players + 4 taxi = 27). Hoglander wins the 2RW spot. Baer makes the team over Roussel due to his better offence and ability to ignite PP2. Hamonic signed to ~$1m and paired with Hughes. Ferland moved to LTIR. MacEwen, Hawryluk and Chatfield kept on 23-man roster to avoid need to waive them to taxi squad (since these players are not waiver exempt). Waive Roussel and Benn to taxi squad (unlikely to be picked up off waivers). Chatfield, Kielly round out the taxi squad (both waiver exempt). Keeps another two taxi spots open to bring guys up from AHL as required. Loui is in AHL.

thats exactly the kind of scenario I think could happen. Jim very well could, and maybe should, expose a few of the guys with larger salaries for the opening taxi squad.

I proposed;

Hughes Hamonic

Schmidt Meyers      To get Schmiddy on his natural side

Edler Rafferty

But I like yours better.

I think we'll see a number of different looks this year. Schmidt is such a useful player, I think we could easily see this at one point this year. I love it when there are multiple good options.

As i pointed out earlier Jim has said he's not looking to make a trade, so until a situation arises that would make Jim reconsider, this whole trade talk is asinine.

Here is a possible situation; some other gm calls and proposes a deal.
