Blackhawks recall Mark Pysyk from the Minors

Unless it is because of an injury, Pysyk cannot be recalled for 7 days from the time he was sent down.

Just a quick hit for each of several of our Young Guns, the "Best Guys Under 25", starting with the active roster!

Forwards

Denis Gurianov, technically graduated as a prospect is still just 23 years old and deserves a mention here as our best young graduate. The 6'3" phenom is having a great year with NHL Dallas Stars, occasionally playing on the ice with Jason Robertson, our next mention. 29 points last year in 64 games and a breakout 17 points in 27 playoff games has set up Denis to be a man of consequence in the league for some time. THis year he already has 26 points in 47 games, and once he makes that final step he will be a 50 points per game player with a much higher ceiling. Excited to have him lead off our TOP 10 Canucks Prospect Update!

Jason Robertson, 21 years of age, is quietly giving a considerable run for the ROokie of the year Calder trophy. He has managed 37 points in 42 games thus far and still has nine games left to put the finishing touches on catching Kirill Kaprizov's point totals. If Jason isn't rookie of the year, he will be a runner up at the very least. Would it help if he pushed his NHL Stars into the playoffs? Yes it would. Prospect Graduated now? YES. Young Gun verified.

Alex Formenton, 21 years of age has recently been called up to the Ottawa Senators for a 14 game stretch, signalling the young winger's maturing to the big's in time to be a force next year. 2 goals in April for this two way player and he managed to stay +5 on the month in the plusminus column. Doing the little things the coaches like to see, and likely cementing his spot on the 3rd line for the next pivotal year.

Shane Pinto, just 20 now, is another very recent callup for the young speedy Ottawa Senators of the NHL. With literally just 4 games played, the young Centreman has a point and not one game has he been a negative on the plusminus. Averaging 11:11 of icetime per game, this is the perfect icebreaker for Shane Pinto who seems to be gelling with Alex Formenton to create a fantastic duo for us for years to come.

Logan Brown has had some callups but yet to skate in an NHL game this year, and is now honing his craft to likely join the NHL Sens full time next season. over a PPG last year in the AHL, Brown has 3 points in 9 games during this covid-weird year and looks to bring his massive 6'6", 227 pound frame to prime time next season, and we can't wait to see where he lines up. With top line potential, it is hard to pencil him in, but possibly a sweet combo with our own Shane Pinto and Alex Formenton on the NHL SENS 3rd line? I would welcome that and our fans would love to see it happen.

Adam Beckman turns 20 in two weeks. He turns heads every shift on the ice all year long. He has recently signed his ELC and begins his pro career with us next season, but already we can't wait to see him on the ice in our sweater. Beckman has been adding to his stock every moment since his draft day where we took him 82nd overall in 2019, a steal by all accounts. He is too good for the WHL, where he will play out this season at least, and even had a cup of coffee in the AHL this year putting up 2 goals and one assist in his first 7 games against men. His 19-20 campaign in the WHL saw him pot 107 points in just 63 games (just 19 points shy of a 2.00 points per game average!!). Adam isn't making us worry for his gameplay but for how fast we can get him into the big show. A very worthy mention in our TOP TEN PROSPECTS report.

Defensemen

Topi Niemela, at just 19 on the blueline for almost another full year, Topi has risen up the league wide prospect ranks in dramatic fashion since being picked by yours truly at 48th overall. Recently having 8 points in 7 games at the world juniors helps, but quietly beating the mens league in Finnland during these covid years is making him wise beyond his time. Just this past little while he has achieved 2 points in 4 games in the playoffs overseas and could even secure a starting job in the NHL as early as this October. Topi is head and shoulders above other Blueline Prospects and deserves a high mention here on our list, anyone not familiar with him will get to know him next year and for many more years to come.

Matthew Robertson, just a smidge behind Niemela on the depth chart, is a 20 year old defender who is propelling the Edmonton Oil Kings to a phenomenal season in the WHL. The team is 17 and 1 with 1 shoot out loss. Meanwhile Matthew has amassed an incredible 18 points in 18 games from the back end, averaging one penalty minute per game and a whopping +23 in those 18 games. He is not giving up that top D prospect slot without a fight and boy can he deliver on the promise. These two Dmen are my one two punch for a youth infusion on the blue line after acquiring great long term veterans over the last two years.

Alexandre Carrier, now 24 years old has had an unfortunate injury shortened season in his rookie campaign in the NHL. The speedy two way defender has top four potential will be a pleasant partner for either of the two men listed above him on the depth chart. With just 15 games in his rookie campaign before injury, Carrier managed 3points, 4 penalty minutes and while seeing 20 minutes a game some nights, was up to the task, not falling below 0 in his overall plusminus. 14 of those games were in March '21, and as his ice time grew game by game, he was instrumental in a 26 minute winning performance against the hot Dallas Stars to kick off his clubs 6 game winning streak, during which he was over 20 minutes on the ice 4 times. Alexandre stands to position himself for a great year next year and we are thrilled to have him with us for it.

Tendies

Adin Hill, still just 24 years old, is quietly making a case for a full time NHL job. Our 6'6" Tendie has also filled in for us quite nicely this year as our 'third stringer'. WIth one more year left on his deal before he is an RFA, it is the icing on the cake for me to include Adin here in our prospects pool report. Just saw he has once again been activated by the NHL 'Yotes and will probably see a few more games this season, in preparation for taking over the full time backup duties in the desert next year. in 15 appearances this year, he has a 2.89GAA and .908save%. As his 2018 AHL playoff performance suggests, there is a lot more there when he is fully healthy and fully motivated. Next year should be big for Adin Hill.

Honourable mentions:

Ian Scott, the top goaltending prospect in the Toronto Maple Leafs pipeline won WHL goalie of the year in 18-19 and was on Team Canada at the 2019 WJC's, but injuries have made the last two seasons a blur and a dark spot on his young resume. Even without a meaningful game in almost two years, Scott is now deemed healthy and in fact did face ONE game in the AHL this month testing his hip and preparing for a full time return to hockey next year. The setbacks may be behind him, but he still has a lot longer road in front of him now than it seemed he had to face just two short years ago. This potential STAR performer will remain with us as we have him locked up for another season where we expect to see him rise up and shine in the paint!

Nathan Legare has just barely been beaten out of a top ten prospect spot by Adam Beckman, mentioned above, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve his own shout out. The 20 year old power forward has top six upside and a heavy shot and since being traded from the sliding Drakkar where he was the captain and was putting up ppg numbers, he has managed to find another gear. With the Val-d'Or Foreurs Nathan has a whopping 24 points in 19 games in the QMJHL while being fortunate enough to enjoy +19 on the plusminus there. A big swing up from the less gifted team around him back in Baie-Comeau where he was notably -24 on the plusminus in 19-20. I have never seen such a meteoric swing in defensive play. Proof that it takes a village to raise a talented puck dangler. Nathan may be a year or two out, but well worth an honourable mention in our TOP TEN PROSPECTS REPORT.

Adding these kids to the likes of Anze Kopitar, John Klingberg, Mikael Backlund, Jeff Petry, Ryan McDonagh and new acquistion Alex Galchenyuk, not to mention Tendies Semyon Varlamov and David Rittich, and a supporting cast of skill and speed, will help to balance our cap hit out while not losing a step in the points department. The Canucks have YET to miss the playoffs, but admittedly it doesn't look good for us right now, 200 points out and days ticking off the calendar all too quickly, but I can promise our fans that "the rebuild" is complete and we barely missed a step at all. IF we do miss out on the post season this year, rest  assured we have it in our sights early for next year. Not to get ahead though: we intend to push the NORTH division right to the brink until the final puck drop for our final player on the ice on May 19th, which appears to be our season closing game. Three weeks to change our fate, with this cast of characters, anything can happen!

Sincerely, Vancouver Canucks GM and life long fan;

Optimist Prime!

Carolina is pleased to bring all these young players back at affordable cap hits. Colton in particular has been a great find for our scouts.

We have a number of forward UFAs coming up, so filling having younger talent for cheap should help fill out the roster under a flat cap.
