Pittsburgh Penguins 2021 Entry Draft Report

The Pittsburgh Penguins headed into the 2021 Entry Draft with a half a dozen picks and three NHL defensemen under contract. The team was able to move two 3rd round selections to add reliable young defenseman Esa Lindell from @Rush17' s New Jersey Devils as well as moving out a 3rd to @inane and the Blues for another reliable defender in Robert Hagg. With the immediate additions to the defense corps the team was ready to start selecting at the draft.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2021 Entry Draft Report

The results are in! Other than a few players most of my selections I " jumped the gun " and selected players well before they went in real life, is that a product of being completely out of my element or did I know something the NHL teams didnt lol :P

My final three picks were fun selections I felt I wanted to take a run at, I didn't hold out too much hope that either would get selected and neither did so I suck but here is the run down:

# 6 small.png Defense Simon Edvinsson

# 33 small.png Forward Prokhor Poltapov

# 61 small.png Defense Sean Behrens

# 73 small.png Forward Ayrton Martino

# 201 small.png Forward Lucas Forsell

# 214 small.png Goaltender Joe Vrbetic

2020 # 93 small.png Forward Oliver Tarnstrom

Unselected: Forward Daniil Lazutin

was one I was watching but with only three picks this year we opted not to select a tender.

Down By the River, great pick at 57! I am biased and lean in to the Finns but even among the Finns he was a great choice!

Rush17, IMO your first eight were all solid and legit picks for where you picked em and now, after reading up on the final two: not bad choices there either really, for where you took em.

I also like BOmbas picks, but i shy away from Russians later in the draft usually..so i just don't know about Sergeyev

Lastly Gally, solid draft as the NHL numbers indicate. Wong was popular in a lot of leagues so I think I am wrong on Wong, but he wasn't on my list in any round, we shall see: i just don't know about him.

As for the Vancouver Canucks three selections:

10th oa 1st round VANCOUVER pick in FL Draft: Aatu Raty ---> 52nd oa 2nd round NYI pick in NHL DRAFT (-42!)

29th oa 1st round VANCOUVER pick in FL Draft: Samu Tuomaala ---> 46th oa 2nd round PHI pick in NHL DRAFT (-17)

107th oa 4th round VANCOUVER pick in FL Draft: Ville Ottavainen ---> 99th oa 4th round SEA pick in NHL DRAFT (+8)

So my two first round selections were taken in the 2nd IRL, and I can live well with that, and my 4th round pick was also taken in the fourth a little earlier IRL, and I agree with that very much. Happy with our draft and happy with our rebuild. One last thing to do before the summer break and that is to use our cap space for a free agent addition to the club that will help to put us back in the post season where we feel we belong, after missing it this past year.

Vancouver Canucks are back in fighting form, although Weber is a concern, having just acquired him seemingly moments before the bad health news arrived, we will have to see what his future holds.

Welcome back Jack!

New Jersey Devils: Where Might Jack Hughes Rank Among Centers?

The NJ Devils are proud to announce the acquisition of Jack Hughes. The team acquired the young center from the San Jose sharks in a massive blockbuster deal involving five parts four of which headed to the Sharks. The Devils parted with now former Captain Dylan Larkin, prized defenseman Damon Severson along with two highly regard prospects for Jack.  NJ GM had this to say about the transaction "it was a difficult decision without question. Dylan has been a phenomenal leader here in NJ since we acquired him from the Flames last summer. It came down to addressing our need to get younger.

Jack can grow with our young prospects as where Larkin is already entering his prime at the age of 24. Larkin will be sorely missed but we are thrilled we could combine some of our strong prospect capital both with Daemon and Dylan to continue our goal of getting hunger. Hughes will remain a member of our team of this franchise as long as I am the GM of this franchise. He is a truly special player with elite hockey sense and slick skills. We could get burned in this deal long term with the emergence of the young prospects we moved but we are thrilled with the decision regardless of the outcome of Jarventie and McCartney who we highly coveted. We wish all four of them well in San Jose and we were happy to get Larkin and Severson onto a team gearing up for playoff success!
