We didn't feel comfortable dealing out a long term extension for him and his age is a bit more advanced then the age of our core. We felt it would be best to put him in a position to succeed next season. We anticipate a rise up in the standings for us in 2023. We likely will need to suffer one more year in the trenches. We are optimistic our kids will get us out of the trenches soon enough. We will be looking to add in veterans likely after next draft. Right now we are slotted to pick first overall and this is definitely an interesting year for such a rare opportunity. We have a need at C and D. So we will likely target one of those at 1st OA if we don't get a worthwhile offer to move down. We wish DiPietro well in Colorado. They showed a lot of confidence in him and really believe he has a chance to he their future. After drafting Askarov last draft and the emergence of Kaapo Kahkonen it became apparent he likely wouldn't get a great opportunity here. We will continue our plan to draft and develop our talent. We will however be open to moving one of our firsts if we can get a young NHL piece that would otherwise be exposed in expansion. We also are open to moving up from the mid 20s into the teens. If you have a desire to slide back and pick up an extra pick please let us know. Thanks to @AriGold for the trade convo. Best of luck all in the playoffs and post season.
